By the way the GTO is way easier to work in the engine bay, unlike the F-body.

Bingo! That's what I enjoyed when I had both of mine. Both cars have plusses and minusses. I see a few "Keep the SS" comments which is fine, but are they based on nostalgia or the merits of the car(s)? or do you just not like the GTO?

To the original poster, what do you feel is more important to you, all out speed? Or speed and comfort?

The F-Body like you have is all about speed. In the process, it has the manners of a cuisinart chopping ice. But it was the car or "weapon" I chose when I wanted to annihilate anything and everything. The F-Body was the car I wanted when I was in my 20's, young, single, full of testosterone.

The GTO is the perfect blend of speed and comfort. It's much more the precision surgical instrument. It's 99% of the performance of the F-Body with 150% the comfort (and I don't just mean sitting in the seats, rather the whole driving experience). This car was the car I'd chose when I wanted to be faster than 99% of the people around me, but not draw attention to my "actions" in the process. This car is soo much more fun to go hunting BMW's with (I hate BMW's) because all the Beemer folk think it's just a Cavalier, right? The GTO is something I'm much happier with being a little older, wiser (yea right!), married, a child, with a home and responsibilities, and lets face it, I don't crawl around on concrete floors working on cars like I did 10 years ago anymore. Plus you can work on this LSx motor a lot easier and quicker since half of it isn't under the cowl!

Do you drive this car everyday? Or is it a weekend warrior? That'll play a lot into it also. But chances are, if it's a DD, this is a BIG swing to the GTO.

To the GTO owner who busts his head on the A-pillar of the GTO, I busted mine more on the Camaro. It's lower and even more raked back!

Like I say, both are great cars and have their plusses and minusses.

i had several f-bodys...

94 A4 Z28
00 A4 SS
98 M6 TA
99 M6 TA...

a few of them were smokin fast, a few were sexy as hell. however, the goat pwns their face in the comfort & ride quality. not to mention the build quality, my doors dont sound like trash can lids when i close them. on top of all that i know i could make the GTO just as fast and almost as sexy ( my 99 t/a was somethin else ) and still have the ride comfort and sexy interior. and ive got an '04...

I sold a Lingenfelter Hugger Orange SS and got my GTO recently. Both were great cars in their own respects. The GTO, to me, is more refined and more of a long haul cruiser which suits me fine and the camaro is more of a street brawler IMO. The one nice thing is more people could ID a Camaro than a GTO. I've gotten the 'Is that a V-6?' comment several times in my Goat. Plus I've had dozen of f-bodies over the past 18 or so years and the GTO is a welcome change. As stated earlier the GTO engine is lot easier to work on for modding, you can actually see the back of the engine. Go drive a goat and then think about it.

PS: you could always get a GTO and sell it when the new Camaro comes out.

Never owned a Camaro but have several friends with them. Love the performance of the Camaro, especially the SS, but overall the goat is a nicer car. Yeah its a little porky but hey its really comfortable. Either way you got sweet ride!

I had a pewter 99 M6 camaro SS built up to 400hp

Now I have the 05 GTO (blue on blue, M6) running the same power

If I had to pick...the GTO hands down (well, the LS2 GTO anyways)

No matter which way you slice it or dice it, the f in f body should've stood for fkd, like you are when you're visiting the bank to constantly fix them (or upgrade )

I personally feel better from a repair/maintenance point of view knowing I've got 400hp stock rather than having ***** loads of aftermarket parts.

After about 10 f-bodies ranging in years from 1981-1999, I got sick of the POSs (although, I admit, I'd love to have a 2002 SS sitting in the garage collecting dust just for selling value in 20 yrs...the 1999 though has no such appeal..wasnt the first or last of its body style, or any anniversary..plus no steering wheel controls..i hated that for the price of them).

But damn straight, come 2009/2010, I'm picking up the new Camaro AND the new GTO (assuming they actually roll it out)

If you actually work on your car a GTO would be very worth it. The LS engine is great if it isn't in an Fbody.
