Default GTO Mileage

I might be in a position to buy a used 04-06 GTO in February 2008. I used to drive a 3.4 Firebird and now I drive a 3.8 Camaro vert. I like the vert, but I am really, really tired of going slow.

I would be driving the car a lot though for business. I was wondering what the gas mileage of a new GTO would be. I would prefer to find an LS2 GTO (so 05-06), but an LS1 04 isn't out of the question.

My '06 averaged about 25 mpg over the 3,500 mile round trip for Hotrod Power Tour, doing 80 mph mostly. Car is completely stock, 6-speed manual. If you are worried about fuel economy, avoid the automatic tranny cars. They average about 3-4 mpg less than the 6-speed.

Yeah I've heard the autos really sap mileage in GTOs. Even though an auto would be better for doing business (talking on the phone really quick), I know where my heart lies on this decision if I can pick a GTO up

I can talk on the phone and drive a manual just fine. It is called asking them to call you back later, or put the phone down until you are at cruising speed in one gear.

I get an average from 19-22 depending on if I am on the highway more or city driving more. Doesn't bother me...

Avg (city and highway combined, mostly city) I get about 19-20.. Cam, headers and intake..

I took a trip to florida a few weeks ago and setting the cruise at 80 on the way down there netted me 28 mpg.. On the way back with spirited driving (hitting 140 on an occasion) I netted 25..

Gotta love that 6th gear

Yeah they do! Stock isn't too bad but my DIC reads an average of 14-15mpg (city/Hwy); thats due to a converter and cam though.

W/cam and 3.91s, I get about 16-17 average (city and highway) and about 25+mpg on long road trips. Better than my 2000 SS w/4.10s and a cam.

With an '04, you can have lean cruise turned on. I got a best of 33mpg on one leg of my trip to the F-Body Nationals in Memphis a couple of years ago. That was with a GT2-3 cam also. Mixed was usually 23-25mpg depending on how much highway driving I did.

LS2's don't have that option unfortunetly.

Stock my 04 got on avg 21 MPG (60% highway)

Now with the mods I get about 19.

BTW you can get a bluetooth kit to use the phone hands free with the radio
