Driveability
How many of you M6's have cam/heads/intake packages that make around 500 hp? Those of you that do...how is your driveabilty of the car. Is is something that can be reasonably driven on a daily basis? A buddy of mine is thinking about a package from Vengeance but this is his only car, so maintaining a friendly driving car is important.
He has an 06 M6 car...and the Kooks are going on Monday at my house..(any pointers for ease of installment there would be appreciated as well)
Thanks

I'm probably making just under 500 crank hp with my setup (395 rwhp N/A)
Cam, Headers, exhaust, tune, ect...
my car is no problem,
a little surging (idle seek) when coming to a stop after cruising
but never stalls
I lost a little torque below 1800rpm,
but still have no problem going up a hill with the cruise at 60mph in 6th

My car dynoed @ 429.3 rwhp/403 rwtq so that should be near 503 to the crank.
I have Kooks LT's with cats,
LPE CAI
FAST intake manifold
160 t-stat
SLP underdrive pulley
catback (X pipe and 4" bullets)
Torquer v.2 (232/234 .595/.598 112LSA)
also Royal Purple throughout
Driveability wasn't afffected at all. Since it has a tighter lobe seperation, driving at a higher gear at low speeds will make it lug, i.e. parking lots. Also, it will take about a week for you to learn how to take off with a new cam. The power increase is awsome. Never know a cam was in it on the highway. Definatly worth every penny.

Thanks for the input...now about those Kooks headers..not too terrible to install are they? I come from an LT1 background and we did lots to our old cars (Z28's), am I tackling about the same as far as install difficulty?

The LT install on the GTO is easier then the LT1 fbody. You are going to need to drop the steering rack and some crow feet wrenches will make disconnecting the steering lines from the steering rack much easier.

LT1 headers were a nightmare compared to headers in the goat. Do the passenger side first, takes about 10 minutes. No dropping starter or alternator or anything like that
Scribe marks on the rack so you put it back in the same place as it was before. I've done that on all the installs I've been on and the wheel comes out nice and straight. I also used Amsoil tranny fluid for the power steering. Took out the little whine I had and has been great in the ~3 years its been in there.
Driveability isn't too bad with 500hp. It was a little harder tuning and took a lot longer than I had thought it should. But it drives pretty good, a little rougher when cold, but great when warmed up. It really needs a tune that is pretty good, IMHO. Even easier on a LS2 though.

I hate to sound like a commercial, but I was very impressed with the quality, fit/finish, and detailed instructions with the Kook's headers. The headers and catted pipes fit perfectly with the stock rear section (until the owner decides on a catback), and the supplied hardware and gaskets were nice, as were the 02 wire extenders. I would seriously recommend the Kook's to anyone in the market for longtube headers.
(now I'll watch the mailbox for that endorsement check)

With an aggressive (But not crazy) headers/cam/heads setup up, you should be able to put down 425 whp, which is ~ 500 crank horsepower. You might need to add a catback/pulley to get those last few though.
With that in mind, since he is daily driving it - I would be more concerned about a healthy shape of the power curve (good low and mid-range power) rather than peak numbers.

Cam/Headers/Tune on a LS2 will do 420 to the rear wheels, heads will easily bump it a bit higher right PAST 500@ the crank.
