Default t-stat

To those who replaced t-stats, has anybody had a ses light because of coolant temp too low. I just bought a Trailblazer ss and want to go to a 160 deg t-stat. I have seen misc vehicle is for service because of coolant temp thresholds too low. Basically just wanted to see if 160 or 180 deg t-stat is better. Any insidght would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Go with a 160F. Even with those, coolant will still run around 180F in these LSX engines.

I think you need to program the fans to come on earlier.

Excuse my ignorance, but I just bought the car and it has a dredded clutch fan. I don't know if that can be programmed to come on sooner/cooler.

I had a 160 degree t-stat in my '04 and put one in the '05 when I first got it. Have never had any low coolant lights or any other problems running the 160 degree, except for the fact that I ended up with a bunch of air in the cooling system and took hours for me to get it out when I installed the thing in my '05. Coolant temp kept getting nasty hot rapidly and I had to keep cracking open the radiator cap to let more air out. Other than that both cars have run WAY cooler with the 160 degree thermostat.

And definitely have your cooling fans programmed when you do the new thermostat. It'll keep them from coming on and off so often, and will keep temps low with them running a little more often.

TRUE!!!!

YOU HAVE TO PROGRAM THEM TO MAKE THE FANS COME ON EARLIER AND YOU WILL NOT HAVE ANY LIGHT ISSUES. SOME PEOPLE HAVE HAD THEM AND SOME HAVEN'T. BUT IF IT DOES COME ON AND YOU CANT PROGRAM IT THEN DISCONNECT THE (-) BATTERY TERMINAL FOR ABOUT 5 MIN. AND IT SHOULD REST IT. HOPE THIS HELPS
