Default ls6 cam worth it

a buddy pulled one out of his 02 vette and said i can have it. is it even worth messing with in my ls1, or should i just continue saving my $ and get and aftermarket cam kit. will it even work?

he also told me i wouldnt have to change the springs/retainers with the ls6 cam. (i would change them anyway as well as the timing chain)

Not worth the hassle for maybe 10 to 15 rwhp. That cam AND the heads might be worth the effort but not just the cam. Thats my opinion of course.

no because you still have to change the springs and everything.. and cams are pretty cheap.

You can go alot bigger than that and keep it driveable...most of driveablility has to do with the tune. There are some guys one here with big cams that have zero driveablility issues and other guys with small cams that have issues all day. One the best all around cams seems to be the 224/224 cam on either 112lsa or 114lsa. This is slightly larger then mine but makes nice power and torque. I was one of the guys who "wishes he went bigger"..lol. The LS6 cam is nice but you'll wish you went bigger later on...I guarantee it!!

thanks for the replies.saving $ is always great but having to do a job 2X because you didnt go big enough the first is a bitch.

i will wait and get a bigger cam.
