hey everyone!

I just bought an 04 GTO. Its a shame I cant see it till I get stationed back in the states. I already bought JBA headers, Borla exhaust, and a AEM cold air intake. Do any of you have any other suggestions on parts I might consider? Also, do any of you have an idea on what i might pull on a dyno test after those parts I already bought are put on? Any help would be apprietated.

Auto or manual? The JBA's are not all that great for making big power. Mainly due to the headers being shorties instead of full leanght. Same with the catback and CAI. Minimal gains. Honestly, big gains will be seen with long tubes and a dyno or proper street tune.

I did 333rwhp and 350 rwtq with my M6 car. I have Lt's, catted mid pipes, LM1 catback, AEM CAI and a dyno tune. If your car is a M6, you should be about 10 hp or so behind me, if you are an A4 probably about 20-25.

Like oct03gto said, the parts you picked are ok, but arent going to give you any real big HP gains. Unless your going to a turbo set-up, Long tube headers are pretty much mandatory for making bigger power. Then again you could just spray a 150 shot and hold on for dear life.

Sell the JBA's and get some Longtubes. Kooks or American Racing IMO.

If you are an A4, a Torque Converter will make a killer improvement, with ANY, or NO, mods.

If you are an M6, Longtubes and a BIG cam, will be a huge improvement.

This is assuming you just want to wake up your car enough to keep you happy for a while. We all need to know your goals with the car. With that we can give you more advice. Not knowing those I would say Cam, Full Exhaust and a GOOD tune. That is the foundation for everything else.

Personally, I would wait. See how you're going to drive it.....you haven't even sat in it yet!

Not to be lippy, but, you've already made an impulsive mistake. You bought parts, spent an easy 2 grand, and they aren't going to give you much of a return.

I was the exact same way. My friend really was on me to calm down. saying "...you're going to throw good money after bad." I used the downtime to LEARN the car, LEARN the various mods, and eventually decided on a Maggie. At first I wanted big HP #s. After following his advice, I really wanted a torque-monster and got it in spades with no other mods.....yet.

Remember, HP is simply torque x RPM (there's more to the formula but I digress). I'm not one who loves spinning the motor til it begs for mercy. I'd rather have the surge from down low.

I have NO regrets except my tires last about, oh, 5,000 miles max.

Hey guys.

I'm taking M6 means manual. Sorry, I'm new with all this car acronyms. Yes, the car is a 6 speed manual. Blown goat, your right, it was impulse buying. I just bought the car and I went to every site I could find and found the basic stuff that I heard about and bought it. So you guys dont think it will be any better with those parts I bought. Maybe I should return the headers to JBA and get some long tuble like you guys were saying. What about the Borla exhaust I always heard of them but are they not living up to the hype. Like I said I'm new with this stuff. But the cars mint.. just got it from car max has 23,000 red leather, black... it's awesome. Sucks that I'm in the military and I cant see it. Keep helpin me guys thanks. I'm glad to be part of the goat herd.

Sik Gto.. so I should return the JBA headers and get American Racing headrs?

sweatness... whats a stall?

Everyone,

My goals for the car are to get it down to to low 13's. Like I said I'm new with this sport so hopefully I dont kill myself. Probably one day high 12's.... What you guys think I need to do that. A stock GTO does 13.8 right depending on the driver? Thanks!

Hey everyone,

I just called up the performance shop I bought the JBA headers from and I'm returning them. Now I just need to figure out what brand of longtube headers to get. I'm also returning my Borla exhaust system because I bought the dual tip on both sides and that doesn't fit the 04 model... not ready to take it to a body shop yet. So do you guys think that I should go with a different exhaust system to? Just let me know. Thanks for helping me hook up my car.

Where are you located? Well, your address. Seeing as you're still deployed.

The only body work needed to fit the split duel Borla is cutting the bumper to make the exit for the passanger side. No paint needed.

oct03gto- crest hill, illinois.. it's like 40 min south of chicago. yeah I thought about just having the bumper cut but it's hard since i'm on the other side of the world... you think I could have a body shop do it in a day. you think I should stick with the borla exhaust or return it and go for something different?

cabro- still new with this stuff a ripshift... that make you shift better or something... lol sorry. yeah I was just checkin out the kooks long tubes... there like a grand.. seems promising. i checked out american racing headers but I dont think you can order them online?

everyone,

I'm new with stick shift to! I've messed around with some cars out here in Guam... so I have the basics down. Had a street bike before so I kinda picked it up fast. I heard stick is the way to go with a sports car though. Should be interesting for the first stick I have is a 350 horse GTO!!!

cabro- I'm in the Navy.. I work on the electronics off of helicopters. is your boy in the military? yeah I'll check out the rip shifter.. sounds like a good deal. I'll keep the borla but im still deciding if i'm gonna send back the kit i bought which is duals or send it back for just the single exit. I'll keep it if a body shop can cut it out real quick and it looks nice. what you think?

Definatly check out the rip shifter. If you do buy one, get the race. Not the street. I'll explain further another time.

A body shop can do the work in a day. That includes putting on the exhaust. I would recamend installing the exhaust, and doing the bumper the very same day at the same shop. I've seen some really bad work doing the cuts without the exhaust to guide them.

The Borla is a good sounding exhaust. If you don't like it, then you can swap mids for the 05', 06' units and a bolt on duel exhaust from any 05', 06'. Even any aftermarket catbacks for the 05', 06's. That is what I did with the Corsa exhaust.
