Default Newbie interested in a 2006 gto. Got a couple of Questions

So I am looking at possibly getting into a 06 gto. I don't know too much about these cars and haven't found out too much on the internet. What options were available for the 06 gto? I have gone on a few of the "decode your vin" websites, but i cant find one that lists the exact options on a particular car. Also, I'm a big fan of retaining the original build sticker/window sticker. CAn these be ordered like the vettes? If so, where do you recommend I buy it from?

The particular car im looking at is phantom black metallic on red interior and has a 6-disc blaupunkt stereo and no sunroof. I'm trying to figure out what options were ordered on the car. Thanks a ton!

thank you very much... I looked at that, and it confirms the other data that I have found. Is it really possible that the gto only has two "cost" options? Manual tranny and 18" wheels?... Thats mind blowing to me. I could have sworn i have seen gtos with and without sunroofs....

Nope, no sunroof offered, but a few have installed them thru the aftermarket. I believe some dealers even started to offer it, but never from GM directly. Anyways, the only options are:

-Color
-Manual/Auto Transmission
-17/18" wheels
-SAP package

SAP, or special appearance package, came with different grilles, a front bumper extension, side skirts, and a different rear bumper.

Was a hot item for a while, but it's a push for looks.

The SAP package also has different mufflers and a different spoiler.

Also, there were "aftermarket" wheels that you could have dealer-installed which were a $ option as well.

One thing to keep in mind is the color combo. The Phantom Black Metallic had the highest production # in all 3 years. You might want to look around to see what other colors you like since that was one of the only things you could choose when buying the car new.

I personally have a black/red int. car and love it. However, I HAD to have the red interior, which only comes in a black or Quicksilver Metallic car.

If you want an 06, many people think there's no hotter color than Brazen Orange Metallic (I agree). However, I HAD to have my red interior!

I love my blue interior, Everyone has a fovorite, As far as the sap package it only came on 05's and was then discontinued and cannot be bought accept from individuals who are selling it. Whole sap package i have seen go for over $4000, rediculous i think. It was originally like a $1200 package from the dealer. When gto's were new you were able to get a special order vehicle like with heated seats and 1 or 2 very minor other options

no heated seats were a factory installed option.

Options were, color, trans, wheels, and maybe smokers package, (or it was just on all 2006 cars)

I'm going to try to set the noobee strait here:

They no longer make the Sports Apperance Package, but it was a dealer-installed item. The Webasto 710 moonroof was used by GM in the sister car (the Holden Monaro in Oz), and has been installed by certain dealerships, but yet not a factory option on the GTO. The SAP kit is simply a body kit that the dealers installed just as they would a smokers package. The 18''s that were referenced here are exlusive to 2004 prior to the release of factory 18''s, and I've discussed them somewhat here. Heated seats may have been additional at some of the high-end dealerships, but was never an official GM Accessory.
The total factory options in 2006 are: Color combination, transmission, and wheel size - everything else was left up to the dealership. These cars are very limited production, and more options would have made for more dificult tooling = even less production. I'm 2 tenths behind thatboyvic - I run 13.5@103 in my 350hp '04 dead stock, and my advice is: Be carefull! These cars CAN hurt you if you let 'em take over your senses. Good luck with your purchase.

No difference - The '05-06's had the same factory wheels between them. Here is a nice picture of an '06 Spice Red with factory 18''s. 18'' wheels will keep your tires from doing the awefull strut-rub thing that has bitten the butt of a few of us GTO pilots that got 17''s.

While I've got your attention though, I thought I'd mention that there were two colors (I know of) exclusive to 2006. Spice Red, (depicted in the link with 18''s) and Brazen Orange. I thought there was more, but those two I'm sure of. If someone has any sales lit on the "new for '06" GTO color options, then they can chime in to fill in the blanks.

thanks a ton for the help... Im not really into the flashy colors, so the brazen orange and the spice red arent really for me . Got a link to the optional factory 18"s on the 04 model? I couldve sworn that i read somewhere that the 05 18" wheels were 18x8.5 while the 06 18" wheels were 18x8.

Again, 18'' wheels were not offered from the factory in 2004. It was up to the dealership to order MC2's if the customer requested 18'' wheels.

additional questions:

1) does the 06 gto come with a spare tire/wheel?
2) does the 06 have Onstar?
3) does the 06 radio play MP3 cds?
4) does the 06 have an aux input for an ipod?

thanks a ton!
