Default Shifter ?

My wife and I recently purchaced her a 04 GTO M6. As I have read, the shifter is, well lets just say in need of an upgrade. I found the GMM Ripshift $360. I also found a B&M for $170. I want to get rid of the used and abused ex-girlfriend feeling in the shifter but also want one with the usual short shift and some mechanical stops at a fairly reasonable price but try not to pay $300+ bucks. I did use the search but would also like to hear some you guys thoughts. Any suggestions would be appreciated?

Thanks

Well the two shifters everyone love are the GMM and the Billet Products shifter. If you think the GMM is over priced the Billet is $495, but it is a work of art.

those are your 2 basic choices. the B & M is a documented pos. I have the Hurst and don't like it. if i had it to do over again, probably the GMM.

Look for a used GMM. I got mine for $250 with 5 passes on it. I added a short stick to it and now it's amazing.

I would keep my stock shifter before I got a B&M.

Go with a used GMM, or Billet Products shifter. I would skip the Harrop unless you want VERY notchy shifts, but maybe it was just the one I drove. I have stock with LSS right now, but I am going with the Billet.

I will keep you in mind.

I was reading on ripshift.com about the shifters. It says the street version will keep stock shifter height. Will the race version do the same or is it lower/higher?

The "Street" version of the GMM re-uses the stock rubber-isolated shifter-to-**** adapter piece, whereas the "Race" version uses a solid 1-piece shaft instead.

Get GMM, you pay for what you get. I have it, (race version) and love it. Got mine for 150 from another member of another forum

Billet specialties is much better than the GMM....the GMM is okay, but the billet is the end all be all shifter. I wish I'd just saved the money and bought the Billet, the GMM is tall, and its throws are not that short, though I must admit I have never missed third since adding this shifter. Just wish it offered different **** options, was a true short throw shifter, and didn't look as tall in the console as the stocker.

I also upgraded because I broke the B&M shifter 4 times, those bolts sheared off in the assembly on me twice and I actually broke one of the pieces in half once (B&M replaced). I found a used GMM race from a member in vegas for a couple hundred and pounced just to get the B&M out of the car. I bought the car used with the B&M and it did not come with a stock shifter assembly.

Yeah, if you don't have the money for a GMM or Billet, go with a Lou's Short Stick. Pretty sure you can re-use the LSS with the GMM if you ever want to upgrade further.

I have the GMM race and the only thing that I'd say I would want a little better would be a little shorter through. But even as it is, it's light years ahead of the stock shifter. That thing was total crap!

Anyone heard anything on the Hurst that JEG's has? I guess I may get the GMM here soon. My wife is wanting to take it back to the track but I want to get a shifter in there before we do but I am sure she will have it out there before we have a shifter for it. Thanks for all you folks opinions and comments as I look forward to learn more about the GTO's.
