GM misses the boat with GTO

Re: GM misses the boat with GTO
yes it has some power over the z28..(notthing much over 01-02's)
but it does weigh more, and it has an IRS, IRS= no so good at dragstrip.
and corvette handling? 3500+ car with a vette? (let alnoe a z06)
the current z06 outlaps vipers, in certain tracks so..good luck with that.
Also to the ignorant person, i'm not killing u, it's just bob lutz killing pontiac with the gto, lol.
and yes..HOT ROD magazine, had an article on it going with the Ferrari GTO.
now, if u were able to decipher words in english, u would have read i said "had the feeling", not that it DID outrun a ferrari, then again i'm just quoting people who have built more hotrods than u have hairs on your SCALP.
they tested both, and i;m sure u did as well.
Now back to the topic, the rx-8 is a slug- no **** mr genius-.
the renesis did win Engine of the year, however. oops. Also it goes around a track with any car in its class.
the GTO has an IRS and comes in as a "handler"..well as far as sedans, the STI takes care of it, sad to say. also weighin HUNDREDS of pounds less. (thank god GM owns a piece of subaru, i guess they share that at least since they don't in the handling department.)
they'll sell 18k gtos no prob..mostly off the Ls1 (of vette and f-bod fame) and the NAME.
I was at the NY automotive show...u could see dustballs rolling along where the GTO was. signs of things to come.

C5Vert-
Camaros with LS1's
99 - 17,393
00 - 20,406
01 - 12,652
02 - 24,805
Nearly 75,000 performance V8 coupes in 4 years. 18,000 GTO's is a cake walk. Wake up or they're gone. Wait.....it's too late!

Re: GM misses the boat with GTO
All I know is that any STi, RX8, or whatever else can meet me at the dragstrip anytime once I get it. Whether I win or lose, I'll be more than happy to show it what that LS1 "selling point" will do!

Optioned out RX8 = 35095
Looks like they are in the same class to me.

Message from an EX GTO hater:
I've done alot of thinking about this car. My first reaction was to bash it because it looked like a Grand Am, and I hate Grand Am's. But I have forced myself to look at it from a different point of view and have concluded that it's ok. I now believe that this car will over the course of time take the place of what the Mustang 5.0 used to be. GM will sell these like hotcakes in 2005. If you only spend 1 weekend a month playing at the track then the IRS will not be a problem and you'll be glad you have it when you hit the mountian roads, especially with a 6 speed.
Ok guys you have convinced me. I might end up with one of these!

i just saw one of those magazine shows ( motor trend or car and driver ) and the tested one, i was surprized to see it ran a 13.6 @ (i think) 107. pretty impressive for a stock car.
