Nelson Ledges, Mid-Ohio. Nelson has "Fun Days" & is easy to get on to without a bunch of required instruction. Mid-Ohio has open days, but there's alot of required instruction unless you get on the track w/ a club or group. Look @ their schedule & then contact a group that is scheduled for a particular date. Some groups will allow you to run w/ them.
If you are on a tight budget then the fun days will be right up your alley.
But if you are a beginner, I would suggest instruction. If you can fork over around $250-$350, you can register for a two-day track day with an instructor in your passenger seat. There are numerous auto racing sanctioning bodies that host high performance driver training. SCCA (scca.com) calls their track days PDX's and NASA (nasaproracing.com) calls theirs HPDE's. These events are worth their weight in gold and will start you out much better than a fun day at Nelson.
Check out trackpedia.com for a list of road courses around the US.
PS. fork over the extra money for a weekend at Mid-Ohio... ITS WORTH IT!
Nelson Ledges is a cheap alternative but the track is rough, still fun though as long as you don't do anything stupid. Here is some video of a couple laps in my old car. http://www.therenderranch.com/killer...t%20Sesion.wmv
Also look into Beaverun Motorsports Complex they have Flat out Fridays that include some instruction and lapping, and the track is much better than Nelson Ledges. It is also a good beginning track that is not as hard to master as mid-ohio but just as fun. http://www.beaverun.com/thrills_flat...t_sessions.php
