Took the chevelle to her first autox
Went to enjoy the nice weather with my first autocross today. Had a blast even though I think I was the slowest in my class.
Learned a lot about me and the car in a new way. I spun the car for the first time which was amusing too
I was severely limited by the very hard rear tires, almost any throttle resulted in spin. The narrow 235/60 Firestones up front liked to push a bit, but did a lot better than I expected. I really can't wait to get a Jeep steering box as the time it takes me to correct or switch left to right was excessive.
Other than traction though I learned the car is more capable than I am, even though it's mostly stock with upgraded springs, shocks, and stock SS bars/brakes. Adustable upper rear control arms and slapper bars are the only non stock peices.
I was able to do the whole run in 1st gear (4l60e and 3.42 gears) only hitting the limiter a couple times.
Can't wait to try again. Here is an edited video a friend did showing 3 differnt pieces of the course (my best time for the whole thing was a :45.7 with most being 46s, for reference my friend's 01 trans am with springs/shocks/wide 17s manual trans car was running :40-41. He is also up on me with 2 years experience
