Default Aussie supercars

Any of you guys looking to experience the Aussie V8s at Austin Texas on the 18th/19th May.

They come to my local track in Auckland NZ 'Pukekohe'
Close racing, they are a brand new car this year, new chassis, independent rear etc.

1st year of including Nissan & Merc cars. Hoping other manufacturers get behind it like Toyota, Audi, Chrysler,

Not a fan of some of their 'new' race formats, ie: multiple sprints without pitstops, it takes all the strategy out of it.

Let me know what you all think about them. Have you watched them on TV before?
What support classes are running with them

I watch 'em all the time on Speed Channel! I wish that the US had a version of the V8 Supercars. I've been watching them for a few years now and have recorded most of the races so I can watch 'em whenever I like. I would love to see 'em race at my local track (Sears Point), because It's more of a 'tight/technical' track vs a more high speed place like Austin. IMO, the tighter the track the more exciting they are. I'm not fond of the multiple sprints either. I'd love to go to Austin but don't have the airfare/hotel money. Maybe some other time.

I hear they are having pit stops at Austin, so that'l be great.
What do you think of the Bathurst race?

We're running with them. World Challenge series with all classes running. I have a Boss 302R running in the GTS class driven by Alec Udell under the Motorsports Development Group banner. Car #17. Looking forward to watching the V8's too.

What model Boss do you have?

What sort of power are the GTS class cars making.

It sure sounds like this new circuit is a credit to it's designer. The guys are going to love racing on it.

The GTS class is "handicapped" to make the races as "fair" as possible but it doesn't always work out that way. The Mustangs and Camaros are running restrictor plates on the intakes to reduce horsepower. I'd guess our Boss 302R is making a little under 400 hp at the crank.

The 302R is a race car built by Ford specifically for the Grand Am and World Challenge series. You can find it in the Ford Racing Catalogue. My car is the one pictured in the catalogue as a 302S, but it's really an R model.

Here's a pic from Sonoma last year. Since the driver has since turned 17, we're running as the 17 car this year.

Nice car!
We have a few Muscle car classes here in NZ that also runs handicap races, US & Aust cars with the odd British car, usually the top cars are 800hp + The smaller cars are little Aussie Toranas 6cly triple carbs.
Some are open to any modification, others have to be as ex factory.

They are awesome to watch & listen to. There's a few now running nascar engines.

So for you guys that went, how was the first day. I watched on TV, absolutely love your new track, looks like the V8 drivers loved it as well.
How did the support races go? Wish they would televise all the races

Camaros ran 1,2 in the GTS Class on Saturday. We started P10 and finished P6. Sunday we started P7 based on fastest lap times on Sat and finished P5 which was the best finish of the young season for us.

The track is awesome and I didn't hear a complaint from the drivers. There were a lot of hot laps and fewer cautions than usual for our series. The heat took its toll on a few cars as Sat's temp got to 95deg. Sunday was a little cooler. FYI, general admission tickets get you to several nice areas for watching the race. The hill on turn 1 probably offers the best "cheap" spot.

There were a lot of australians at the race. Most planned a vacation to the US to coincide with this race. The V8's signed a five year deal to run at COTA so they will be back next year.

It's too bad they didn't run the full F1 course. I guess they didn't want the field to get strung out.

I also didn't like the coverage. Waaay too many commercials and lame shots of cars in the pits. When are TV directors going to realize that crap is boring as hell?

The rumor as to why they ran the short track was the V8's could get to outrageous speeds back there and there would be too many serious crashes coming off the back straight. MotoGP got to over 220 mph back there last month.
