Default AutoX rims and tires

I've been through the wheel and tire section plus searching. I would like to know what is the best width 18" rim to run? Is it 9", 9.5", 10" or what? Also if you could provide a good tire size that would be great. I don't mind rolling the fenders if I have to, but would like it to look good too. Thanks.

Oh yeah, Its a 2002 Camaro SS, M6. Thanks

17x11s with 315/35/17s are ideal and will be the fastest setup. If you are dead set on 18s then I would search and see if 18x11s would fit front and rear. If not then 18x10.5s or 18x10s on all four.

4 18x10 OEM C5Z wheels with 295s all around would be perfect. 19-20 lbs each.

only reason to run 18's is for bigger brakes, which isent always the best thing for auto-x. as stated above 17s are better but the c5z06 wheels would be best. unless you got tons of cash and can afford some volk te-37's lol

18 inch wheels will open up more tire options vs 17 inch this is something else you might want to think about.

Those wheels are 18x10.5 315/30/18 might work. They work for a C5 Corvette.

This thread makes me sad and is embarrassing to read.

TE37's are not light and cost over $3000 without tires

Look at RPF1's (Enkei) 18x9.5-10 weigh only 17lbs and cost about $1400 brand new and are forged.

You'll thank me later

I run 18x10.5 Z06 wheels, lightwieght for sure. Plus tires are easier to come by in 295-315 sizes. I buy take off Hoosier A6's from the time trial/race guys running corvettes in NASA.

From a cost relative to performance standpoint, I'm loving my OEM C5Z06 wheels! They were cheap, lightweight and it's easy to find scrubs to fit them.

Thanks for finding a set of wheels that don't fit our cars.

Actually they do. Seen them on quiet a few Camaro's here at SCCA days that know specs on their cars and how width of wheel size doesn't make you "faster" all the time.

I'm currently looking at the size chart for the RPF1 on Enkei's site right now. The only 2 fitments in the 5x120 bolt pattern are 18x8.5, and 19x10. Of those only the 18 has the proper offset to fit our cars. It is also narrower than a factory SS or WS6 wheel. If you can find that wheel in more appropriate sizes for our cars, I would love to see them. They are an excellent wheel. Most of us don't run foreign wheels on our cars not because of American pride like you mentioned in another thread, but because they simply dont make the proper fitments for a 15+ year old American car.

As far as knowing specs of these cars- this thread is about what setup will be the best for a 2002 Camaro for autocross. The answer is a 315 square set will be fastest. Want to know why? We have a multi-time SCCA national champion autocrosser Sam Strano that posts here. He won multiple ESP national championships with you guessed it, 315 square. That car was sold, and it still wins events today with that same setup. There are many other national and regional SCCA event winners here, all of which used the same tire sizes. It is something that has been proven over and over again that for autocross purposes, the wider tire is faster. For those types of events, the car with more low speed grip will win, every time. After you have maximized the cars spring rates, shock tuning, and alignment, how do you get more grip for autocross? Wider tires. Personally, I have run everything from a 255 (narrower than stock) to a 315 in autocross. The 315 has always been fastest.

Is the 315 square best for all occasions? No it isnt, and nobody said it was. I don't use tires that wide for HPDE's, because they are simply unnecessary. In those situations, the weight penalty caused by those outweighs the additional grip. But we arent talking about track days. The OP asked what is best for autocross. That answer has been proven time and time again.

I called enkei about this and they said that the RPF1 is not available in the 5x120.67 bolt pattern...

if i'm mistaken, forward me a link so i can buy them...

i emailed Strano about this and he mentioned that 315s on 18x11s were consistently faster than 315s on 17x11s...albeit not by much. i believe these were on the forgestar wheels he currently carries...

food for thought?
