Good wheel size for better handling?
Hello all,
I am about to go into the market and look at taking off my 5 spoke ZR1 rims and actually upgrade to some nicer wheels. The car in question is a 1999 Camaro SS, I originally was gonna go with American Racing Torq Thrust II 17x 9.5 for the old school muscle car look.

other then the stock size, what wheel size combination and tires would you recommend getting for some spirited driving on either a track day or possibly autocross?

Not worth the switch IMO unless you are going to a lighter weight CCW/Forgeline etc. I don't see American Racing as being "nice" aftermarket wheels. The big benefits you will see come from a lighter and wider wheel. If you only want a 17x9.5 then keep the ZR1 wheels. If you are doing this for looks, well then get any 17x9.5 that you like the look of.

I agree, if you want to see better handling go with some nice lightweight wheels like the OEM C5Z front wheels 17x9.5. Those are relatively cheap and easy to acquire but they are very strong and lightweight. You will feel a noticeable difference coming from those boat anchors you have on now.

Yup, want to play you gotta pay.
Unless you plan to go nationals or be very competitive, be honest with yourself and buy accordingly. A set of factory SS 10 spoke wheels would be good too as a spare set. Anything CCw/Forgeline/Weld will be $$$$$, BUT they are THE wheel to have for racing for being strong and lightweight.
Keep the 17x9.5 ZR1's and put some better 275/40/17 tires on there. Nitto NT05's seem cheap and popular for a street/occasional autocross tire.
