NICE shots & vid!
They took the karts off the big track at RA a few years ago after another fatality and a multi-purpose kart/auto-X/motocross track was built adjacent to the hurrydowns camping area.

Its not exactly game over but they can definately hurt you and crash damage can be expensive. Your not belted into these so if you are lucky enough to get one of them to flip, the thought is that you go one way and it goes the other way. Even though you have your gear on, you really don't want to stay attached to it. Besides helmet, abrasive resistant suit, floves & shoes, we also wear padded rib vests to protect the rib cage and neck collars.

I've fractured my tail bone, my brother in law has has several bruised ribs and my wife had another kart go OVER her in a crash- her hemlent had a tire mark left on it.

Thats incredible to make it through a crash going near 150 MPH with absolutely no protection around you while taking so little damage

Is it like that game Road Rash and those scenes where the biker goes flying one way and the vehicle another and the biker tumbles like a quarter of a mile while bouncing along the pavement to a dead stop before he gets up as if he only tripped over a rock and looks around and goes "Hey! Where's my bike?!"

When big crashes happen it sends a chill down your spine because the chances for getting hurt are very real. The worst I've seen was broken collar bones.
But the lay down karts like what Brandon races, stuff gets real very fast. There were a few fatalites at Road America- which is why they no longer race karts on the big track itself.

its an axle clutch that engages at 10,400 rpm.... so before the start you dont want to sit at full throttle and burn the clutch up....

No its not game over, we rarely have bad accidents... mainly spin offs.... its not like the Sprint karts where they think theyre nascar.... but i wont lie, we have had fatalities in karts just like every other motorsport

Anyone is more than welcome to come out to the races and watch... who knows, i could probably find you a ride to try it...

we just raced at Daytona Speedway at the end of Dec.

our next race is at Roebling Road in March, then Summit Point, Topeka, VIR, Mid Ohio and NCM

I use to race twin engine karts, loved that class but was alot of upkeep....Im now racing X30 (125cc water cooled engine non shifter)

Heres a vid of my friend Rick at Daytona last month.... Twin 125cc engines... 160mph and lap times of 1:56.x

Great Shots & I love Roebbling. I'm not sure my Neck could handle a Laydown.

we have a Pro-Am Charity Karting event in the Tampa area that was started to honor Dan Wheldon. It is year 7 and now benefits St John Hopkins Children's Hospital and organized by Sebastian Bourdais & Patrick Long. I've run all 7 Years, this year we ran on the St Pete GP circuit under the lights, my Pro was Patrick Long, we finished 5th out of 22 Teams.
