Default Oil

What oil are you autocross and road race guys using? Brand and weight? Looking for recommendations. I live in the Midwest region.

15-50 M1. Change it every season or 250 track miles.

^^^not sure about your interval, 250 track miles is a weekend at VIR!

I've been using redline 5w-30 Euro and my oil gets 300 degrees and has-been doing well with 3-4 track days with daily driving in between. Getting ready to install oil cooler and hopefully will get half a dozen track days per change.

Yeah, one two day track weekend. That's about right.

I prefer to use a true synthetic oil. Because of availability in my area, I use Royal Purple. There are only 5 true synthetic oils on the market, and Mobile 1 is not one of them.

I use 5W-40 on the track. Sometimes it's pretty cold in the mornings, and a low "winter weight" works well to get the oil moving quickly. Also helps when the car has been sitting for while. The quicker the oil gets up in to the engine on start up, the better off you are.

You'll get better valve train stability with a 40 over a 20 or 30 weight. My oil never gets that hot, I think I saw 220* once in the last few years.

I'm using Royal Purple 10W-40. No cooler but I do have the Improved Racing oil pan baffle. Typically run almost an extra quart on track and change it after 2 events.

Redline 10w40. MUCH better than 5W30 Mobil 1. I switch between Redline for race season and Mobil 1 for off season.

I would have low oil pressure issues using Mobil 1 5W30 due to the heat breaking it down. Redline solved my issue.
