Progress on my CMC car

Have you found a solution to the brake pads? If not then you can look at the Cobalt Friction X1/X3. The BMW guys seem to really like them. There is another BMW M3 out there in the springs that runs them, his name is Gabe. Races at HPR and Buttonwillow alot so I'm sure you've seem him and his car at least once at an event.

I want to gut as much as possible, but leave more structure than the current doors have. They're very floppy when you open them and the structure to bolt the mirrors to is gone. I could use a lighter detent spring or delete it altogether. Not sure yet, but the way the cage is built on the driver's side precludes one from gabbing a panel to give a finished appearance. It'd be dead weight anyway though, and there's plenty of that in the driver's seat!

So it finally begins!
Gotta get these heads off to the machine shop to deck and check for warpage. Also going to lift the motor to deal with dropping the oil pan to fit the new to me timing cover and 4X OBDII stuff. Should be able to hike it up good and high with no top end on there. Been wanting to do this for months! Also going to be harvesting a rear quarter panel soon. It's race car fixing season.

Looks a little tight working in the trailer?
A gallon of simple green and bag of white cloth rags will make it clean and nicer to work on.
Between races I wipe down everything and check safety wire nuts and bolts while looking for oil leaks.

Not working in the trailer, working in the garage. The car in the trailer was just a shell, not even a roller. Gonna just yank the motor and trans. It'll be easier to do heads, the trans needs a reseal, and I can then just pressure wash the mess out of the car. It's covered in dry lake bed dust from head to toe from some shenanigans that very few people will ever manage.

So remember when I was gonna lift the engine to get the pan off and remove the top end? Well I went a different route.
There has been some scope creep.
It was leaking, decided to do something about it.
Fluid was nasty, makes me wonder if I changed it earlier this year? Definitely confirms my suspicion of the carbon blockers rings breaking in. After a couple of events I could really slam the gears, not so much the first time I had it out after the rebuild. As for the motor? It's coming out tomorrow. Much easier to deal with on the stand.

I'm working on the same thing right now. Engine is at the machine shop and I just got my trans guts back from the polishers (pm for details if you're interested). Can't wait to get it back together, it's going to be super smooth

Is that WPC? I wonder about the synchro cone mating surfaces, I thought you didn't want a mirror finish there? My trans isn't getting anything this time internally, just a reseal. I wonder if a Corvette/GTO trans swap wouldn't be cheaper. I am curious how what you're doing would compare to that.

Bob at NEGP is the man! I love that guy, he does tons of stuff for our race cars.

Yanked the motor today. Finally.
Decided I needed the pan under the motor that was occupied by transmission guts.
Got it mostly back together, but remembered how hammered the reverse hub was so gonna get one of those before buttoning this up for good.
So now the pan is under the barely disassembled motor, should have it scattered tomorrow. Going to slap on fresh heads and change over to an OBDII timing cover finally. From there I can sit on it until I get the time/gumption to 411 swap this thing. I think freshening up the body will take precedence over that though.

I assume no rules against gear polishing in CMC? Also noticed you still have the skip shift solenoid in your case. ICT Billet has an aluminum bolt to fill the hole and knock a pound or two off your weight
