Default Differential issue?

lots of noise lately from my Auburn Race differential. The car is an Autox car running 315 Hoosiers A7's all the way around and the differential have been making more and more noise only during low speed turns. The differentials effectiveness also appears to diminish once it warms up. Anyone ever experience this? Is this time for a replacement. the Differential itself has over 60 events on it so it may be done.

On a side note is there a a more effective autox diff out there or is this it?

M

So 60 events is about 5 years for me... and my Auburn gave up after 5 years for sure, I got the one wheel peel. I'm running a TrueTrac now. Give Sam a call.

OK time for a new diff, was thinking the noise was due the the diff having a little tension but not enough to prevent wheelspin.

wonder if anyone else has had this issue and if there is an alternative to the Auburn diff?

wish Eaton would fix the case issues on their carbon clutched posi so it would survive. went through 2 of those and the helical diffs (T2R) dont work very well with the modern hyper-sticky A7's

my lat 3 diffs are from Sam, I try to go out of my way to buy from Sam whenever possible, he's a great guy.

I have an Auburn that used to make noise but now is quiet and a one wheel peel POS. I was never impressed with this diff. I took my road racing car to an autox this year and looked like and idiot trying to make right hand turns. I had a T2R before and it would occasionally unload. Is the Truetrac any better? I'd REALLY like an OS Giken diff.

diddnt see a OS for a 10 bolt
my T2Rworked when we were still using Victoracers but never really worked with the Hoosiers.
my Auburn has 1 bottomed cone . It just started touching and the crosspin hole was elongated

there has to be an alternative

Also in an effort to lock it up as much as possible I've been using Redline 75w90 NS with no additive. that probably accelerated the wear. I wonder how much I'm gaining by doing that. Im Sure Sam knows

Your car obviously works, what are you using in the GM housing?

the short life of the Auburn race is a bummer but there doesn't seem to be a good alternative for Autox. did Eaton and Torsen ever fix the case wear issues?

The Truetrac took anything I could throw at it. Never ran a Pro, but I was tempted. It just didn't have a high enough bias ratio for concrete sites.

The T2R I'm using is a known good old one from Madarash. It was made before the case issues came up.

Before? I thought mine was an early T2R? It was built in 2004 and the worm gears ate the case. I swear I'm still pulling metal out of the axle housing and that thing went in the trash in 2016.

I'm still on orginal axle housing and original gear set, 5th diff. I might not AX as much as others, but about 16 years of 10-12 events a year. I do a reaasonably smooth launch to not abuse/shock the gears too much.

yea A7's and not so level surface rules out the truetrac

same here on my 6th differential so far. From T2R's to Eaton's and Auburns. destroyed a pair of axles when the Torsen failed

Class rules limit mods. Was hoping that Eaton had fixed the case issue

Are you allowed to run the rarer 3rd gen rear end from Australia? It's still a 7.5" Borg Warner 9-bolt. It bolts right in, and it is stronger than the more common 10bolt. The axles are an inch shorter though for 3rd gen wheels, so a 4th gen wheel will be sunk in a bit.

Track width ratio from front to rear significantly impacts the balance of the car. That and wider is better.
