Default What tires

I'm trying to decide what tires to buy. I will be a 50/50 track day road car. I've couple of sets of wheels with 9/17 in the front and 10.5/17 in the back on the car now but I have the stock ten spokes also. I will probably just get tires for the rims that I have on now and don't know if a R compound will stand up to limited street use. Could do with some recommendations.

The tread on an r comp will wear fast, but the heat cycles will kill it faster. You’ll end up with a tire that has tread still, but grips less than a new street tire.

best compromise tire would be any of the popular autox options these days.

How well do the drag radials handle the corners.

For an R compound the nitto 555r2 holds up pretty good on the street. I run th 555g2 on front and 555 r2 out back. It handles well especially considering im setup for drag racing and don't even have a front sway bar.

Are you looking for a corner carver or seeking traction for drag racing? For normal everyday driving the drag radial will be fine but the softer compound tires have a shorter life on the street so if it's mostly a street car I would not run drag radial tires. If you're looking for a good street tire the Michilen Pilot Sport would be a good choice and I believe they come in both of the suggested sizes.

For road course/HPDE days? No drag radials and no regular summer tires as they will not hold up. You want 200tw tires or better. Unfortunately, the tires available in staggered 17s suck, but you may be able to find RT615k+ or NT01. What is most important to you? Pace, cost, longevity?

If I were you I’d put some Nitto NT01 on the stock ten spokes 275 all around. Staggered sizes aren’t the best on these cars. The NT01 isn’t the latest and greatest tire but it doesn’t heat cycle out like the super fast 200tw tires do. If you have the desire to be competitive in a certain class or you need something with a 200tw rating, the Nittos won’t work, but if you are just looking for a long lasting tire for track days and autocross they are hard to beat. They aren’t very expensive and you can run them down till the chords show.

Please don’t listen to anyone telling you to put drag radials on the car.

NT01 wear pretty well. Khumo V730 are nice if they are available in the size you are looking for. Might last 5000 miles.

Consider an endurance-oriented 200tw tire, like Hankook RS-4, or Continental Extreme Contact Force.

Im running the Yokohama AD09 on my car just getting in to AutoX and HPDE racing..

Im staggered 245/45/18 & 275/40/18 so that they are the same height.

I am loving these tires. They take a second to get warmed up and I havent cooked them yet but I have heard you can get these too hot on long track days.
