Question, and I'm very new at this so please, if it is stupid, be gentle. I have a 1998 Trans Am M6, so it has a 3.42. If I change the rear gear to a GM 3.73 in the stock 10 bolt would that still be F-stock legal?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Technically, no because you can't change the final drive ratio for FS. But like ramairbrc said . . .
I don't think it will give you an overwhelming advantage, so I wouldn't lay awake at night feeling guilty. It will just mean that you use 2nd gear a little more than you did before. For some tight courses with good traction, the 3.42's might even be better and allow you to stay in 1st gear for the whole course. Also, there isn't a lot of difference between a 3.42 and a 3.73 with a M6; I would consider 4.10's if I were you.

I have 3.55's in my Cobra and I pretty much stay in 2nd for the entire run. I can recall experimenting with dropping to 1st a few times but I really couldn't see where it helped much. Adding a bit of gear would probably be helpful, although whether to go with 3.73 or 4.10 is unknown (to me) for autocrossing. I havn't autocrossed my Z yet, so I'm not sure how it will perform. It has 3.73's in it and it feels pretty weak in 2nd at low RPMs, but that could be the cam...I'm new to this camaro stuff.
