Default Brake THIS...

What type of aftermarket brakes does everyone run and how do they perform? Also, how much did they set you back? Looking to upgrade and would like some info. Thx

I would say that Wilwood is probably one of the most popular brake pakages out there. if you want something more exotic you can get a AP Racing, Movit, or Brembo setup. Ball park price is $1500 for Wilwoods and AP and others are $3000 and up.

They don't make them any more ... Think Movit or Stoptech for a comparable system. I think those kits are around $2500. Lucky me I got in on the close out sale for the last 12 Prospeed kits. I paid $1695 for mine Probably the best money I've spent on my car.

What are your goals with the car? Track car? AX? Daily driven, weekly abused?

What do you plan to do?
Sure it is a big chunk of money , but the confidence big brake kits inspire is worth the initial cost.

I really want the performance plus the look. My car is driven once a week if that. I only work less than a block away from my house so the weekends are really the only time i drive it. I would really like to do some road racing at least 2-3 times a year. don't get me wrong, i love drag racing, but i'm more passionate about road racing and have always wanted to do it. now i finally have a car worth road racing. Plus, i've heard after a few fast slow downs from 150mph the brakes are **** anyway. Thanks for the replies.

No kidding ... it was a hard decision.
The funny thing is they sold a few hours after I hinted at them being for sale.

I was going through a set of front rotors every weekend and a set of pads every other weekend. I installed big brakes ... I went over a year on rotors and replaced them unnecessarily. I went through 60% of 1 set of track pads.

It's a chunk out of pocket, but you just don't have to deal with brakes any more.

If you are just concerned about looks and want a little better performance, I say go for some larger rotors with brackets for your calipers, better pads and some SS lines. no sense in going off spending $1k on brakes that are going to be daily driven and hardly ever see the track

BottleRocket, I see what your saying and I agree. Some day though I hope to have more money and time to road race it more than once a year. I figure if I'm going to do it at all I, might as well do it right and only once. I want to be able to go to the track and have no worries. Do most aftermarket brake kits come with SS lines?

Stoptech makes a great kit for big brakes. A close friend is a Viper tech and has installed many Baer/Alcon kits and Stoptechs. He prefers the Stoptechs.

I have a set of MovIt Brembos using 993 Big red calipers waiting to go on my C5. Can't go wrong using pads from a production car. http://www.ultimategarage.com for MovIt kits.

At $2k Stoptechs BETTER be impressive! That's almost as much as my Moser 9" was.

Can you tell I'm a drag racer? I'm used to rolling to a stop. But thanks (?) to Racehead & NataSSinc, I'm starting to have to look into things like this for open road racing. Guess I need to return that call to Larry @ CarboTech & see what he has to say. I was thinking more like a grand.

Stop tech is a good brake. LG uses them on thier world challenge car if that tells you anything about them.

Good Big Brakes aren't cheap, price out some AP kits. Most can get by with some 13" rotors and good pads. Like anything else in this game how fast you want to go is how much money you have.
