start your research by searchig NataSS Inc's posts and check out the speed discussion in this forum. things grow exponential in the quest for 200mph in an fbody and more importantly your wallet.

Look for good aerodynamics, make it low to the ground with an air dam that touches the ground. At high speeds, air under the car makes it float.

Well put. Start reading & prepare to spend ALL of your $. Going 170 is relatively easy. 200 is in a competely different solar system. And grow some BIG clankers....you'll need em!

The safest way to go 200 mph is on the Bonneville Salt Flats here in Utah. The land speed racing club here will make sure you have all the right saftey equipment. You will need about 600 rwhp.

Here's some information:

A undertray for the aero package and a rear diffuser(not a spoiler) will help the stability.

Yeah but corvettes are expensive, and the fbody is actually a better platform in some ways for high speed work. For either one, building the motor is the most expensive part, and the Vette is going to cost a lot more up front to purchase the car. Some of it depends on where you want to drive 200 mph, what type of racing. For the Salt Flats, you can do it with a stock body lowered onto the bumpstops with a lot of ballast. No aero body parts or belly pans required. It is also more safe there because you have unlimited space to recover from a spin. BTW, the worlds fastest stock-bodied, door slamming Land Speed car is a '92 Firebird at just over 300 mph. That says something about how good an fbody is at high speed stuff. This car uses two huge turbos, something you couldn't do with an ORR car. Take a look here:

Good areodynamics, about 500-600 flywheel hp, and the right gearing match (trans/rear end gears). More HP the better.... I would not use nitrous at all. The 3rd/4th gen F-body is a proven car that can eclipse 200mph with enough power.

Safety should be one of your main concerns. Things can happen fast at that speed even on a wide open course (ie Salt Flats).

I did about 175mph one day in 5th... that was flying. 25 more mph would have been pretty nutty. I felt at that speed I needed a better rear spoiler (LS1/RX-7) than the stocker. Be careful and use your head when doing any form of racing.
