Thumbs up Scoping interest for fabrication of harness bars

As a new sponser of tech, it has come to our attention that harness bars are hard to find for these cars. Would there be interest in having us jig up a removable bar that attaches to where the factory rear seatbelts are currently?

If so, any specific requirements that would be needed?

Thanks

It was your post to get us thinking. We could definately do a one off for you if you'd like, but if there was enough interest we would jig one up to sell mail order.

harness mounts would obviously be included. Most fire extinguishers and rollbars can be attached using a removable "rollbar mount"

Yeah, but removable "rollbar mounts" cost up to 50 bucks each. At that point, it becomes kinda expensive... and if it costs what a cage does, why not do a real cage?

"rollbar mounts" are the clamps that some companies sell to mount a camera to 1 3/4 or 1 5/8" tubing, nothing more. What I'm talking about is a simple bar that goes from the two upper rear seatbelt bolts with tabs welded on to facilitate 5-pt harness mounting....something that'll cost less than 300 bucks.

Wel.. we autoX and Drag race at the tracks a few times a year and I personally would love a solution that kills 2 birds with 1 stone.. A mount for a camera and seatbets? Would these be made out of chromoly or what? Powdercoated?

Any ideas of sketchs of what you are thinking so far?

Price points?

would be made of mild steel (economy option) or chromemoly. Powdercoated for sure. We would like to keep in the 250 dollar range for a std bar with harness mounts.

You might want to post this in the "braking and handling" section as well, more viewers there.

...as well as over on www.frrax.com (but I would check with their mods, some of whom are on here also, about sponsor requirements/limits before doing this!)

You wouldn't really need much. Most of the newer belts Ive seen offered are wrap around and you would just need a way to stop them from sliding down the bar that wouldn't put any stress on the belts in the process.

what rules would this qualify under? the rules i have read that require a 5pt harness also require a 6pt roll bar. or is this more for the street carver market?

Yes. Most HPDE (high performance driver education) events will let you run with these.

The current plan is for us to get my wife's car to the shop for mock up (all the other cars at the shop are tubbed and don't have provisions). We'll post up some pictures and pricing in the next few weeks (after the holidays)

Thanks
