Default Cylinder Honing Technique

I just recieved my 400 grit ball hone in the mail today. How should I go about honing my walls? Wd 40, engine lube, water? My cylinder walls look pretty good as they are, how long should I be in there for each cylinder? I'm reusing my stock pistons by the way. Thanks in advance guys

just use a good 30wt oil. make sure you keep it well lubed. if you use an entire qt on each cylinder dont worry about it.

make sure to get a good motion down and i would just use some heavy cheap oil. what are you using to spin it?

a good smooth down and up motion is good, and only take it down and up twice maybe 3 times depending on how bad your cylinder is. just make sure you spin it the same RPM's, nothing insane tho.

I like to use regular ATF for the cutting fluid. A bit thinner than engine oil. You're just trying to deglaze the surface so I'd say no more than 5 passes up/down. Start with a few strokes and then clean it up and look it over.

ATF works well to, just makes the metal go away faster. i like to use thicker 30wt oil so i dont get too agressive. id rather it take longer to hone it than to remove too much.
