Dyno numbers.....

Wow, this intake performed even better than I expected but mainly because I had scaled back my projections knowing it was going to be placed in front of a stock GM 317 casting.....the lower the head flow the less a stock intake is a restriction.....the less an aftermarket intake is going to do for you.

On the flipside, the better the heads, the larger the restriction a stock intake represents, the larger the gains swapping to a really good ported manifold.

This is a 2006 cam only truck guys.....stock 6.0 shortblock and a pretty healthy cam (high 230's @ .050). Obviously an auto trans and this truck has a two piece driveshaft as well.

The gains from the intake swap blew my away (this is literally the ported intake I posted pictures of in my earlier posts a couple of weeks ago). Customer has given me the greenlight on a "Mamofied" set of AFR 230 heads and we will be going back to the dyno with the head swap in about 4-6 weeks or so if I had to guess. That should be cool also in and of itself to see what just the head swap can do for us.

In the meantime, check out the fat gains we made with the stock 317 heads!

BTW....at 6500....a very usable RPM for this combination, we are up close to 60 HP!!

Cheers,
Tony

Those are some serious gains all things considered. The losses through the truck drivetrain would be larger than normal. So that motor is putting out some good horsepower for the mods.

I agree....

The baseline was pretty strong but in-line with what you could expect considering a "healthy" cam only deal (IMO the cam he has is pretty aggressive for a 5000 pound truck application). He also has a good 1.75 header/exhaust and a high flow CAI, UDP, etc. but the addition of the ported truck manifold just blew up the numbers big time. The dyno curve looks more like a heads cam 6.0 deal now and if you think about it we picked up gains that would be associated with a really good head swap.

Cool stuff.....really curious to see how the 230 heads Im working on for him are going to work out.....the pressure is on.....LOL (its almost hard to imagine a significant move forward from here but we are both hoping thats the case!! )

Awesome results!!!

Is that against the old 1999-2007 "big ugly" truck intake?

Wow that is impressive Tony. I will be on the look out to see what kind of a difference the 230's make.

Yes....but those intakes were actually OK performers (with a stock GM head at least). Of course they were not up to the task of a really high flow aftermarket head and thats exactly my point....had the heads already been swapped and we made the move to the ported FAST there is no question the delta (net gains) would have been an even larger!

I NEED one of these in my C5.....LOL (bulging aftermarket hood and all which is the aesthetic deal breaker for me unfortunately).

I tell you this, If I owned an F-Body I would do whatever it took to shoehorn one of these in there.....the cool thing with that is you just have to modify the cowl and maybe just the addition of a very stealthy aftermarket hood. Hell, it may even fit under the stock F-body hood but Im not sure.....maybe the poster above in this thread will chime in that did the swap.

That's it. I'm in. I currently have 33 acres of prime hunting ground for sale in Arkansas and I swear to The Almighty, when it sells, I'm putting one in my Camaro, ordered from Tony Himself.

ONLY thing is the wipers.... wonder if I can somehow relocate the motors or fab something like cam arms for them.

Tony, thank you much for posting the graph!

Great thread. Amazing the difference an intake manifold will do for you, 60 hp is nothing to laugh at...
Looking forward to the update when new heads are installed.

I really wanna see a lsxr vs lsxrt dyno comparison with good heads and a mid to big cam. If the lsxrt can beat the lsxr by an average of at least 10 HP and tq I would cut my cowl.

Wipers had to be completely removed, and cowl had to be notched. Map sensor was relocated forward, longer TB cable needed, longer stock fuel line hook up, and Truck Rails with spacers were needed. K-member was not spaced down. Setup as is will not fit under stock hood or ws6 hood due to the LSXRT intake placing the TB up at about a 20-30% angle as seen in pics. Minimum of 3" cowl would be needed but could be smaller depending on slope of the hood in front area. Custom ram air or CAI will have to be used because of this as TB will not line up with lid due to extreme angle. You could keep lid but would need major fabbing of intake tubing, and would need to hack and re-epoxy lid. Stock bottom 346 H\C\I put down 496rwhp\417tq. I possibly have access to a 1313 LSXR 102/102. Same porter as my LSXRT 102/102. Maybe if Speed inc or AMS would donate some dyno time we could do a back to back comparison of which intake performs better lol... Hope this helps everyone.

What was your cam? Just wondering cause the tq seems low guessing a big cam? Your car seems like the ticket for a intake comparison!

Whoa jzingre, those are some serious horsepower and torque numbers the way the torque hangs on.
