Default 4 channel car, 3 channel rear

Just bought a 2002 Camaro with 4 channel set up, which includes ASR but the rear is 3 channel. At some point the rear was swapped out. Anyone know how to at least get the 3 channel to work so I can have ABS?

all you have to do is switch out the parts from a 4 channel rear to the 3 channel and cap the ABS sensor hole in the top of the housing. Too easy.

Yes AND No.
Yes if both carriers are the same series,No if the carriers are different series.
2 series carriers and 3 series carriers have different reluctor rings.

so if all i'm doing is swapping the posi (out of a 96 10bolt 3.42 4channel) and putting that posi into an 01 convertible that was 3.42 open 3 channel (car used to have a v6 in it) i should be fine since i don't have to worry about the reluctor ring. correct? i'm leaving the rear end, axles etc out of the 01 in that housing and just pulling them out enough to get the open diff out to put the posi in

No,you have to worry about the reluctor ring. The 01 open carrier has to have a reluctor ring on it for the 3 channel system to work. the 96 4 channel Auburn carrier wouldn't have a carrier reluctor ring. The ring from the 01 carrier has to be put on the 96 carrier for the 3 channel system to work.

OK- 99 TA LS1/A4, no traction control. My rear was shot. I found one from an 02 SS M6 car. The brake lines were different and so i swapped all my hardware over to new rear. Both cars had same electrical plug to body and plugs/sensors behind backing plate. That is ABS correct? I now have brake light on and ABS inop light on. Is it from gear swap or possibly sensors bad on new rear? I did not see any plug on top of either rear so I am assuming it is the same(4ch).. is it possible my car that did not have traction control have the 4ch rear anyway? I had no light on before, just horrible vibration and humming..

Would like to add a little for converting a four channel 12 bolt moser to work in a three channel car. I oredered the center section reluctor ring from Moser. You have to call them. They don't list it as a part on the internet. Anyhow, when I received the reluctor ring I heated it in the oven to 400° as per the technician. I them slipped onto the center section. After it cooled it was still loose enough to slip back off so I just took my tig rig and added a few tack welds to hold it in place. I called Moser the next day and they said that was a no, no and that my center section must not be machined for a reluctor ring. I was not going to just buy a new center section if it is not needed. So far it has worked quite well.

I tigged mine as well, worked fine with the sensor. I think I put down 4 or 5 tacks.

I couldn't find a clear answer to this question.

I have a 3 channel car - can 4 channel axles be used without interference? I would obviously remove the ABS reluctor rings when putting them in the 3 channel housing.

Yes I know this is an old thread but it's got a lot of good info on it and I figure I'd keep it all in one place. I'm currently in the process of converting a 4-channel Moser 12-bolt to a 3-channel for my car. The part number Moser gave me for the reluctor ring is 9A25, yes you need to call them, it is not listed on their website. I also have a template that I got from Moser that shows the exact location and size of the hole needed for the sensor, as well as the hole and tap size for the bolt that retains the sensor, it's on my computer at home and I'll upload that next time I'm online at my house.

You need to take what Moser says with a grain of salt. I spoke to them on two separate occasions, once in the summer of 2018 when I got the rear, and once in the summer of 2017 when my buddy bought the rear (who I bought it off of when he sold his car). The first time I spoke with Moser, the guy I spoke with said the conversion was possible, gave me the template for where to drill the holes, and told me to buy their reluctor ring and tack weld it to the carrier to hold it. When I bought the rear about a year after that conversation, I thought I lost the template (which I thankfully found) so I called Moser again to ask for it and spoke to someone different, this guy told me the casting were different and the conversion was not possible, and told me there was no template.

I tend to believe the first guy a little more since he actually gave me a template. Also, looking at my 4-channel rear, it looks like it's cast for the 3-channel sensor but just not drilled, so it makes me think the castings are the same between the two.

Here's the template from Moser. I also cleaned off and took a photo of the top of the housing, and it looks like the hole for the sensor bolt is already drilled and just needs to be tapped. It also looks like the main sensor hole might already be drilled and have a freeze plug installed. I'm planning on pulling the cover this week and seeing what the inside looks like.
