Got a little more work done last weekend. Got the turbo kit and turbo back on, mounted the MS3 ECU and cleaned up a bit more wiring, started working on the ABS delete (just waiting on a couple fittings to finish) and dropped my radiator off with a buddy to have a bung welded in for the coolant steam ports. Will hopefully get some more accomplished tomorrow and Sunday evening.
I also ordered some 275/60/15 Nitto 555r's today for $252 shipped from Discount Tire's Ebay store. They had a $50 off code so figured I might as well. I have another set of 15x10 darkstars I will throw these on so I don't have to worry about ruining the 275 Pro's.

Not much to update but still making progress every weekend.
Working on finishing up the ABS delete. It's not the prettiest setup but will work for now. I am not going to install a line lock just yet but when I do I will make everything cleaner.
A shot of the new intercooler bracket a buddy and I made.
Nothing huge here but I mounted the lone fuse block.
This is where the MS3 will be mounted.
A look at the cheap seats and RCI platinum belts.
Lastly, got the 555R's in on Monday. The Nitto 275 looks strangely small.
Hoping to get everything back in the engine bay this weekend and work on wiring the MS3. Would like to be able to fire it in the next couple of weeks.

Made some more progress recently. Really anxious to get the car going after being at the track this past weekend.
I got the cage painted a week ago. I used the Rustoleum Hammer Tone paint. This was the first time I have used this paint and the first time I have painted a cage. With that being said, it didn't turn out as great as I wanted and I do not want to do this ever again. I read several threads on using this paint and some guys said they used cheap brushes and rollers with good results. Well, I am not one that had good results. The drivers side door bar has a ton of lint in it from the roller I was using. I finally went to Home Depot and got some good foam rollers and they worked much better. I used some cheap foam brushes on other parts and they seemed to work ok as well. I will redo it this winter as I don't want to mess with it now.
Last Friday a buddy and I got the vacuum block relocated and wired up the fans and fuel pumps.
A random engine bay shot from a couple of weeks ago.
Hoping to have it running this coming weekend. With any luck I will be driving it by the end of the weekend. We shall see though.

Knocked off another small, but tedious task last night with getting the shifter mounted. It is it now better secured than what the picture shows. This was snapped mid install.
Plan on hitting it hard this weekend. Have a few buddies coming over to help get the MS3 all wired up and the interior back together.

Coming along quite nicely! I didn't know you lived in Madrid, I was thinking Cedar falls area. You going to be running it at Eddyville? Im closer to Humboldt, but I'm hoping to get to Eddyville sometime this fall.

It should be a good turnout.

Cool build. I am curious to hear how you like the Ms3pro. Also - I know you consolidated to one fuse block, but aside from the stock gauges, what all did you need re-wire in the car when going to a standalone ECU?

This week we are going to get the microsquirt wired in for trans control, fuel level gauge, and get the 2-step and boost control wired up to the MS3 as well as the wideband.
Honestly, I wish I wouldn't have went this deep into the car this year. I should have just had the cage done and left everything else alone. The car was running well before but of course I had to go and change a bunch of stuff. The MS3 will be nice in respect to the fact I won't have to babysit the tune now. Also, the safeties that it has will be nice and hopefully keep the motor together for a little longer.

So I have been at wiring things up when I have time in the evenings. I have the wideband in and working through the o2 sensor plug in the MS3 harness. I also wired in the Microsquirt to the "Trans" plug in the harness. I haven't verified the Micro is correct just yet because I had an issue with the alternator not charging so I took it off the car to get tested. Sure enough it was bad. It worked last season so I am guessing we fried it when the car was running for that short time. The LS drop on harness instructions tell you to hook up the "alt" wire to a 12v switched power source and that you may need to use a resistor to excite the alt. Well, my buddy was making all the connections and I completely forgot about needing that resistor inline to drop the voltage the alt gets. Not that it would have mattered because for some reason they send a 100 OHM resistor which isn't even correct. I went and got a 470 OHM from radio shack and wired it in but obviously didn't work still. That prompted me to remove the alt and get it tested. I put the new alt on last night but didn't fire the car to verify.
Here's some pics of the plugs on the harness and my mess that no one will see behind the dash.
Mess behind the dash...
This is where I mounted the boost solenoid.
I also got the fuel gauge from Speedhut calibrated and working. I didn't want to pull the pumps to manual move the float to calibrate it, and I didn't want to mess with draining the tank and filling it back up either. So I found a few threads on calibrating it by using resistors since the sender uses an OHM reading that is not one of the pre-calibrated ranges that aftermarket gauges ship with. So I picked up some 33 OHM resistors and some random ones to make 240 OHM's. It showed me as having a little less than 3/4 of a tank which should be accurate. I usually stop for E85 about 20 miles outside of my small town so I know it's always full or close to. I can never fill it completely up because the fuel with run out of the EVAP line I have just hanging out under the car...I need to do something about that this year.
Well, that's the update for now. Tomorrow I am going wire in the fuel pressure sensor and try to figure out the 2 step wiring. Going to try and get the carpet back in tomorrow as well and if I am really feeling motivated will start putting the headlights, bumper and cowling back on. If all goes as planned I am hoping to have it moving this weekend or early next week. A guy who works for DIY Auto Tune (Scott Clark) is going to remote into my computer sometime this weekend or next week to get everything setup for me. If that works out and I have no issues then I will start trying to get a decent tune in it. There's a no prep race my buddy is putting on at our local 1/8th mile track the 18th. I may be doing pulls and tuning it on the way down there. I don't intend on being competitive that day but want to support the event and make some TNT passes to get the car dialed in a bit.
I'll have more this weekend.

I know you already got a new one but I took mine down to Novaks, here in cedar rapids. He rebuilt the entire alt and put a self exciter in it. Converting it to a one wire for a 100 bill. Luckily for me using the dominator. I assumed it would have the alt plug and play as well. Of course I was wrong. lol So I went this route instead. Made it fool proof. Ran it back to the cut off switch and called it a day. Just a thought. You been up to cedar falls this year? Ive been up twice to watch test and tune. Alot of turbo cars coming out of the wood work. ;]

I went up to CFR for the Outlaw Chaos event. It was a pretty good turnout.
A buddy came up this weekend and we finished wiring everything in for the MS3. Got the FPR sensor and 2-step wired in. After he left I continue cleaning up the wiring and trying to get it in place. Installed the radio (NEED THAT!), finished wiring in the fuel level gauge, and installed the radio bezel and did a few other small things like headlights and whatnot. The plan this week is to get the rest of the interior in, bleed the brakes, and get the tune setup. I am not looking forward to bleeding the brakes at all as the reservoir was completely emptied. I did put some fluid it in it and pump the brakes a bit to make sure there weren't any leaks in the lines and so far I don't think there is.
Hopefully it will be moving in the next couple of days.

Making progress still.
The tune is setup somewhat and it starts and idles much better now. It idles a little high and the DIY Autotune guy thinks my harness was one of the early ones where things were wired wrong. He thinks the IAC and the oil pressure sensor are wired wrong. So, I pay all this money for a harness and get one that's wired wrong. Not to mention all the spare inputs and outputs are on their own "branch" and none of the wire colors matched up with the manual. I did check the IAC wiring from a diagram he sent me and it appears to be wired correctly so not sure what's going on there. I need to go through the test mode tonight. I did verify that the trans control works and it will shift through the gears.
I got the brakes bled the other night. Still need to put the seats/belts in, put the air damn, bumper, and cowling back on. After that it should be ready for a test drive.
