hey I am needing a little advice on where on the housing to put the W/G

higher up which would make packaging easier

or closer to the flange which seems closer to where everyone else has been putting them

thats the 69mm "denmah special" with a 44mm gate. the reducer is a 2.25 to 1.5 sch10 I'll cut down until the ID matches the W/G

this is my first from scratch turbo build btw, go easy on me plz

As already said, keep it closer to te turbo flange and out of the scroll where gases are actually entering the turbine wheel.

Nice man. I dropped my housing and a few other things off at the machine shop today to get my gate flange welded on. I'll update with some pics when I get it back.

time ( and several heat cycles) will tell, but it seems to have decent penetration. I think the key was letting it cook all the machining oils out of the turbine housing for awhile. the casting is quite porous. totally different than the truck manifold castings.

other than that, normal stuff. 1/16" tungsten ground very sharp and fine, between 50-70A, about 20cfh, .045 rod for the root, 1/16th for the cap. 309L rod. solar flux type B instead of a purge.

then I left it on the stove while the fire burned out for about 4 hours. no "tinkle" sounds lol

I welded my gates onto the housing recently. I haven't run them yet. I took a bunch of precautions using pre and post heat, correct filler rod etc.

Well I finally got back my hotside from the machine shop. These guys are semi local to me and was really my best option since I don't have a tig and live in a very rural area. They deal with nothing but industrial stuff but did a pretty good job. I hate they tried to clean up the weld on the housing but it really doesn't matter since it'll be covered by a blanket anyhow. You can also see the patch they made for the wg flange on the crossover that the douch bag cut off. Turned out nice enough for me. They also welded up my 4" vband on the dp.
