Default Is it worth it to upgrade to fast intake?

I have a 98 turbo ls1 Trans am, ported 243 heads, blower cam, 76mm turbo. Anyways I was bored and decided to check for boost leaks, boost has been kinda inconstant, and I found my ls6 intake manifold cracked right where the #1 injector goes in. Thought it was an odd place to crack, but it leaks. Is it worth it to spend the money and upgrade to a fast intake or just buy another ls6 intake? Only running about 10-11 psi on this set up

There was a local guy selling a fast 92 mm intake and throttle body for about $800. Didn't know if it would be worth it to spend the extra money and what kind of gains I would achieve

I may be wrong on this, but I've heard the LS6 is a better constructed piece for boost. Plus if you wanted a couple more hp just turn up the boost a little

Pressure test a fast and see they don't hold like a factory intake. They give more HP but they are made cheaper than factory intakes. If I ever decide to boost a car I will have a factory intake. Others will disagree.

How much will it cost you to change, and what do you perceive as a good return for that money ?

The old fast intakes are the ones that are bad for boost the 92 and 102 manifolds are just fine for boost as far as how much power it will pick up i couldnt tell you but it will make more then a stock ls6

I have an LS1 intake I will be swapping in place of my FAST someday.

I would put the cheapest factory intake you can get on there.

I put a little epoxy on the crack and it seemed to seal for now. Just a temp fix, guess I'll be looking for another ls6 intake. Thanks for the input. If I want more power I'll just crank up the **** lol

Given the silly prices some ask for an LS6, if you can get a good deal on a suitable FAST, I'd go for it.

Or, whether some like them or not, the alloy BBK, Weiand etc arent bad at all and you can usually find deals on them.

They seemed to fair a little better mid range than the LS6 intake in that recent test. Not enough to make a swap for example...but you're in a situation where you arent swapping, but looking a replacement intake.

The steel base plate that came with the BBK I used seemed crap though, so I made a thicker alloy replacement. Steel one looked like it would flex very easily under boost.

I honestly would go with an edlebrock intake of some sort. Instead of spending all that money. You should have the ports matched and casting burs smoothed out, but for the money, I'd go that route and REALLY crank the boost up later on down the line.

I don't think the edelbrock will fit on a 98 Trans am, don't won't to have to a bunch of modifications to get it to fit

And what would be the point in that ?

carb intakes mostly suck, and their ProFlo that wont actually fit....wont really yield any benefits until after 6-6500rpm or so.....if his engine even revs that far.

This is what many refer to. Of course it will vary from engine to engine, setup to setup, but it's still a good test

I don't think it would fit under the cowl, those intakes are pretty tall
