Is this normal? I've had someone say yes and another no. As I'm turning the engine one side would get tight and vise versa. At one point both sides had slack.

Makes me believe my chain slipped, if that's possible with these engines. I remember lining the dots initially, it was off 90*.

Yes, that is normal. There's no way it jumped 90 out from that little slack. My chain was the same way.... and it had very few miles on it.

Ok thanks. I couldn't find much on why the tightness went from one side to the other.

Timing.....Crank and Cam.

Valves and rods looked good. I'm going to replace the valves before I take it to the dyno just incase of possible bent ones.

So was there actually anything wrong with the starter. Seems odd it was getting stuck. Or was it just a Timing issue cause all of it?

This is an old thread so he may not respond. Try private messaging him possibly.

I also feel that "Timing.....Crank and Cam." is not very descriptive.

I had a similar problem trying to run my lm7 on the stand and it was the grounds that were the problem

Hope this helps

Im having the exact issue he had. I’ve tried shimming the starter and adding grounds. But it just keeps whining and won’t start. Maybe a pop or two out the exhaust sometimes

So starter being shimmed wrong won't make it not start. Check and make sure you didn't plug the coil packs backwards bank to bank. So pass plug to driver coil and vice versa. I did that on my 5th generation and it would crank forever and kinda pop from the exhaust but never start.

Do what jordoza said. If it is cranking well, and getting spark it's not a bad ground. I was also under the impression LS starters never get shimmed

I think you guys missed the meaning of his post, By "timing...crank and cam" and then him saying he was going to replace valves, I would guess he didn't have the cam crank and cam timed correctly....in other words...timing chain was not lined up and valves where hitting the pistons and not letting the engine turn over.
