Full Mamo H/C/I build on low mile C5 Zo6 with dyno results
Bought the car at the end of November with 2,900 miles on it. Due to the snow and salt I have only been able to drive it 200 or so miles since. I ordered a full N/A setup from Tony Mamo that was installed by Complete Street Performance in Pa. List as follows
Fast 102 ported by Tony
NW 102 TB
LPE 100mm Maf
LS3 injectors
Mamo 220cc heads with lightweight valve upgrade
Heads milled to 59cc
Cometic head gaskets .040 to aim for 11.45 comp
10mm rocker studs machines in
Yella Terra Pro rocker arms
Johnson limited travel lifters
Custom Comp Cam 229/232 .615/.610 114
New timing chain assembly
Ported and blueprinted oil pump
ATI dampener 10% underdrive
Manton custom pushrods 7.500
The car already had Kooks 1 3/4 longtubes with cats and midpipe and a vararam intake. I ditched the cats with the heads and cam install. Dyno had an issue with the rpm pickup so unfortunately it's in mph. Final was 468/423 Baseline with the longtubes vs the finished product
Went from a monster S3 to a RPS carbon twin. Well worth the upgrade. Really woke the car up, which sounds strange after those kind of numbers, but you could really feel a difference
Thanks, what clutch setup did you switch to and how much difference I'd it make?
Jacob (Darth V8r) purchased one of my unique "Mamofied" RPS designs that is five pound lighter than a typical RPS BC2 that's already pretty light. I have come to call it my "Holy Grail" clutch as I feel it is the ultimate street strip clutch for serious manual transmission enthusiasts
Here is a thread that Jacob himself wrote reviewing the clutch at the time as well as another well written thread posted more recently from another one of my clients
Both are extremely informative and make for excellent reads.
Email (or PM) me back if you need more information
This clutch will transform the way the car drives and complete the package you have already set in motion. I bet with a brush up of the tune and this clutch your well in the 485+ range. Consider a Mezziere EWP if that isn't already in the mix as well.....its alot of nickel and dimes from here that get you creeping up close to 500 in a very drivable combination that still has solid low RPM power and tons of midrange grunt as well.....doesnt get much better than that!
Does the RPS clutch rattle at all in higher gears at low rpm load?
I have an LT1-S monster clutch and without the sprung hub at 1750 rpm in 4th it shakes the whole car. I've read about the same issue with Mcleod RXT's on mustang forums. Surprisingly not much on LS1tech about vibration with either clutch. Glass smooth in neutral at every RPM..needs to be loaded up. More load more vibration.
It is worst in 4th gear, but also does it in 3rd and 5th. I feel like the power flow through the transmission being 1:1 offers the least damping.
1750 is a classic resonant point for a cross plane v8..I'm not surprised, but I'd sure be glad to get rid of it without having to add a ton of weight! I otherwise like the LT1-S quite a lot.

Not that I've noticed. I did pick up some gear whine in fourth at low RPM when I swapped transmissions, but thats all.
But come on, who makes a 470HP 346 just to run it at low RPM all the time???? LOL kidding. that's a DD for ya!

Haha yeah very true! Ironically I lugged my C5Z way more than I do my stroked LS2. Kinda funny actually.
With my car being an LS swapped RX7 nvh is pretty ****. My engine mounts are nearly solid, and the car is a tin can lol. The chassis is also super sensitive to wheel balance and driveshaft balance. It is maddening.

Do you also have a 'lightened' version of the typical RPS BC2 that includes the aluminum flywheel? I believe the off the shelf version weighs 25lbs.

Yeah. You may want a CF driveshaft. Kills a lot of that crap

I have steel with windows cut in for WR. It's around 31 lbs iirc. Full shipped er including packaging was 33.

I've considered a CF driveshaft - also a CV joint shaft.
This is what I'm dealing with. The low rpm vibe around 1750 I easily drive around. Another buzz comes in at higher rpm, 3600-ish. It is less intense, but more annoying. Double the rpm and halve the intensity makes me believe it is the same harmonic, just second order. For how much time, money, and effort I've put into this car I hate things like this.
Doesn't do it at all in neutral. 4th gear is the most intense. 3rd and 5th also does it, but more limited. 6th gear I try not to lug that hard so idk what it does. 4th gear being 1:1 has the least amount of damping through the transmission. The higher the load the more it shakes.
Sorry for the thread derail lol. I am really interested in the RPS clutch for performance reasons, and if it had less vibration I would have an easier time justifying a swap.
