Default are these gen 4 rods in my 5.3?

i believe these are gen 4 rods in my 2004 5.3. If not, correct me, but what would be the next weakest link? and what are my limits? (turboed)

(being a gen 3 motor i figured they didnt fully upgrade everything before the gen 4 motors were produced?)

From what I've seen, as long as you aren't all in...early in the rpm... and the tune isn't crazy .... it will live and run good. I've personally never tried it though.

Even the gen 3 rods will hold power. 9 out of 10 on boost who blow up end up lifting the ring land. If they were gen 4 rods ( I can't tell from the pic, but I'm no expert), and you had a good set of pistons in it, it would hold a ton of power.

This is regurgitated, but makes sense. Put the car on the dyno, find out where max torque is..... and leave the timing soft wherever that happens to be, ramp it in from there. I think people bend rods because the high timing feels good down low.... but they are asking a lot of the stock rods.

They both have bumps. Gen "4" rods are way beefier in the beam and big end. I have seen the beefy rods in both press fit and floating configuration.

Gen 4 rods have 4 sharp corners on the caps and beams. Gen3 have a radius on 2 sides.

The car in the link is not mine. Just posted it to show those sbe's, gen 3 or 4 can make plenty of steam and still live. My car is not sbe, but isn't anywhere near even being on the same planet as that mustang.

My 2003 5.3 has gen 4 rods as welll. I was shocked when I opened up the pan and tray. My guess is that it has pressed rods as I’m one of the bastard gen 3 engines with the gen 4 rods early on. Any way to tell if they are pressed or floating pistons without pulling one out? Maybe a part number on the piston? I could have been lied to about the year of the motor too tho.

To the OP, my gen 3 rods have been up to 12psi or about 600hp at the crank with no issues. The big difference between the rods is rpm, gen 3 are safe to 6500ish and gen 4 higher from what I’ve read.
