Default Stalled & Cammed A4 @ 450 RWHP - Which rear axle?

I may go S/C later in life so I want a solution that will ensure I have enough endurance for added power in the future.

I have have Speed Engineering True Duals and they go over the axle, car isn’t lowered, need something that will clear my exhaust.

between the Strange 12 bolt, MWC 9” or Fab 8.8”, which rear should I go for?

Dollar for dollar a s60 is hard to beat, but does come with a weight penalty... Call up Midwest chassis and see what they have to say..

MWC 9". Gives you everything you want, plenty of clearance, room to grow into a higher power level, ability to run MWC's tq arm which will help on both counts.

An aftermarket rear in these cars is best looked at as a buy once, cry once item. I have so many dang clearance issues with my stamped 9" that I WISH I'd gone with the MWC or Moser fab housing, but now that it's pounded the snot out of my floor and I've welded LCA brackets to it I'm married to the dang thing.

The 9" also gives you the most diversity in center sections and axles vs the 12 bolt or S60 as far as I know.

Pretty much the same setup I have minus the true duals (which I would like LOL). I ordered a MWC Fab 9 last month. Like said above, I've done everything else so I wanted to just do it right an spend the money once.

How difficult was the install? Did you need to do any fabbing or is it all bolt in?

it’s being built so I haven’t received it yet. Anticipating it coming in April...I hope!
supposed to be a direct bolt in with no fab needed. I’ve never installed one by myself but I plan to do it when I get it.

Our F-Body specific housings are the only housing on the market that bolt in the same way a stock 10-Bolt came out. True backbraced fabricated housings will take you way beyond the 1000 HP range, you will never get that reliability from a stamped nine inch and especially a 8.8. I know there are individuals or companies that will tell you differently but there is a reason even fast foxbodies go to a nine inch. Once you start making decent power the ring gear in a 8.8 becomes a wear item and it is a shame that information does not get passed along more frequently like it does in Mustang groups.

Here is a break down of our housing- https://midwestchassis.com/p/fabricated-9-specs

do you think there is enough clearance for True Duals without exhaust modification? Just wondering to determine what I’m going to need to do regarding my exhaust.

I just want to state my MWC Fab 9 is installed and went in with no issues. No exhaust clearance issues either and we even lowered it 1" - The 3.88 gear really woke her up from a dig.. ..but I almost wish I had an extra gear at 80.

Cool. Do you have any pics to post on your install? I'd be interested how your true-dual exhaust is routed. Thanks.

I didn’t do the install but the shop told me he didn’t have to make any adjustments over stock. MWC instructed this for my true dual setup over our conversations when spec’ing everything out:

If you are using a over the axel duals kit such as the Kooks or Speed Eng type then you will want to use the short arm and the “Double Drop” style crossmember we offer. This has proven to work with previous customers with typical minor repositioning of the pipes at worst case.

I took it on a longer highway drive today and I am getting vibration in the drive shaft tunnel at speeds over 70 so I’m alittle concerned about that. The shop that did the install used the stock drive shaft with a different UJoint to get it to fit. Should that be okay or do I need a new drive shaft?

Your pinion angle might need to be adjusted if that wasn’t addressed.

3rd gen car here but same rear end. Midwest fab 9 bolted in with zero clearance issues. Doesn't make a sound at all and super smooth. I couldn't be happier with my rear end. Midwest Chassis FTW
