Default What's the Stock U-Joint Size for 4th Gens?

Looking for confirmation on the stock u-joint size for 4th Gen Camaros ... Where the rear of the driveshaft mates to the 10 bolt rear ...

Is it a 1310 or 1330 ???

I've been told by a driveshaft specialist that a driveshaft with 1330 u-joint will bolt up to the 4th Gen 10 Bolt with no modifications to the 10 bolt yoke ... Is this true?

Thanks ...

Ok ... I finally found that the stock ujoint is called a Saginaw 3R or somtimes referred to as S44 ...

The dimensions of this ujoint are very similar, if not the same, to the 1330 ujoint ... The 1330 measures approx. 3 5/8" wide with a face diameter of approx. 1 1/8" ... I measured an old stock steel shaft and got approx. 3 5/8" wide and a face diameter of approx. 1 1/8" ... So I guess these are pretty much the same except with how they are held in place ... The Saginaw 3R uses a C clip to hold the u-joints within the yoke and the 1330 series uses injected plastic to hold the u-joints with the yoke ...

I think the side that bolts to the yoke is a 1330. It should be 1.063 (1 1/16") bearings. The side in the driveshaft is a 1310.

they are all 3R or S44 joints.......
the 1310 or 1330 will not bolt up to the 3R pinion yoke....

specs of the 3R/S44 joint: lock up=2.556 (inside) bearing dia.=1.125"

specs of the 1310 joint: lock up=3.219 (outside) bearing dia.=1.063"

specs of the 1330 joint: lock up=3.622 (outside) bearing dia.=1.063"

Agreed - Saginaw 3R. For some reason, a lot of people (including me up until a few months ago) think it is a 1310.

I am trying to find out how the 3R/S44 joint compares to the 1310 and 1330 in terms of strength....?

Dudes at PST indicated that the 3R was stronger than the 1310, but didn't give me an exact number. Then again, I didn't ask. They might know though.

The 1330 and the 3R are the same dimensions, except the 1330 is retained on the outside, while the 3R is retained by clips on the inside.

not according to the 2005 Neapco catalog....

the 3R and 1330 have different bearing cap diameters.....not by much, but they are different

1.125" vs. 1.063"

I would not want to run a 1.063" dia. bearing cap in a yoke calling for a 1.125" dia bearing cap.

I believe Arlene at PST told me that the 1310 joint is rated up to 600hp......

So in other words, my weak ***, bolt-on only setup is in no current danger

You're right - I was mistaken. The rockforddriveline.com website has dimensions for all the OEM u-joints and is extremely helpful.

Maybe this should be added to the rear end FAQ? Mods? Bueller?

Per the GM parts layout catalog for an 02 Z28,a 3 channel ABS only rear end and a 4 channel ABS & TC rear end use the same yoke.
