Default Still low oil pressure after oil pump swap

Hey guys

1998 trans am ls1 806 heads casting I bought the car already cammed ms3 113 lsa with 104000 miles
I drove it 250 miles 80mph on 1900 rpm
I notice the oil pressure was 35 , I raced two times after that I found low oil pressure 7psi on the idle !! 25 psi on 2000 rpm !!
I decided to remove the timing cover , I Found Rollmaster LS1 Double chain and ported oil pump with bad O-ring

I just swap the cam to t-Rex and new ls3 oil pump with new felpro O-ring , fire it up but still with low oil pressure 30 psi on idle 40 psi on 3000 rpm it doesn't go above 40 psi BTW the car still cold , i did not install the crank pulley yet

What do you recommend me to check or what should I do ?

That make me sad cause I was really excited for the new cam

Thanks

You sure you got the O-ring on there without getting it pinched? It can be a PITA to get it done, but you'll see low oil pressure if this is the case.

It's been a while since I've done a cam swap, but won't the front main seal leak without the pulley in place?

The cam retainer plate has a gasket that could have a small cut on it. Try to rule out the easy, cheap stuff first. You also may have a bad bearing.

What Dave said, plus I would check the oil and open the filter to make sure you don't have a more serious issue while your at it. Doesn't hurt to check.

Check your oil pressure at the front left side galley port behind the alt. You can run it with out a serp. Belt for a few minutes. If your oil pressure is noticeably higher there vs. The top rear galley port you likely have worn internals or a cam bearing out of place, if it's the same or so, keep looking for that bad o-ring on the pick up tube or the oil pump is at fault.

I would think with the crank pulley not installed you would lose oil pressure since it would leak there.

The seal of the engine has nothing to do with oil pressure. So taking the fill cap off or even removing a valve cover wont make the pressure drop.

!st thing you should do is either replace the oil sending unit or check the oil pressure with a standard manual gauge. Also check for air bubbles in the oil, this will tell you if the leak is before the pump. Possible the sender is reading wrong? Past that take your pick internally what could be wrong, there's a 100 places it can lose oil pressure unfortunately.

^This! The first thing I was going to say is check oil pressure with a manual gauge first. The gauge on the dash has been known to be flaky on these cars. If the pressure still reads low with a mechanical gauge, then look for air bubbles. Cam retainer plate gasket or oil pump O ring. If that all checks out, then it's time for a tear down more then likely.

Please explain. What you’ve posted doesn’t make any sense.

I think what you're trying to say is to be careful not to push the balancer too far into the oil pump but the menton of shims has got me thinking you don't know what your're talking about. Please advise! Inquiring minds want to know.
