Default Headrest Question

Good morning gents,

Random question for everyone, I was looking at my headrests and I noticed that mine don't look like any other T/A's. Mine rotate forward and back, every other one I've looked at appears to be stationary... is there a reason why mine are different?

Check out some pictures of 1997 and earlier Trans Am interiors, and see if those seats are what you have in your car. I seem to recall that some of the very early '98 cars still got the older LT1-era headrests. Further, you can check your driver's door jamb sticker (if it's still present) for the build month and year of your car (it would be in MM/YY format, and it would have to be a very early car to have come with this stock, so the build year should be '97).

If you do not have an early '98 car, then it's possible that someone just swapped in earlier seats, for whatever reason, at some point.

Here's mine. Build date on my car is August 1997. If that's the case it seems like the pre 1998 headrests we're better optioned

Yes, those are the earlier LT1-era headrests, and your car almost certainly came stock with them based on the 08/97 build date.

Back in the early days of these cars, we used to call those headrests the "alien head" version.

HA! No kidding... Anyone know if they're more (or less) comfortable than the 98-02 headrest?

Those look like they provide better neck support, at least laterally. My June '98 T/A has the later, flatter headrests.

^ I don't think the base seats ever came with the big headrest.
