Default Is doing an EGR delete a good idea?

I have seen some people doing EGR deletes on their performance cars. Is this a good idea? What are the benefits and drawbacks from doing this?

Less crap going into the fresh air side and clogging up stuff.

potentially less mpg

If tuned right, there should be no loss in MPG. EGR does not save gas...

So basically it just cuts down on carbon deposits and such things? Are there any real downsides?
