Default Acetone in gasoline...

I was watching Garage 54 on youtube and they were playing with gas additives. Acetone(10%) in gasoline took .6 seconds off a 0-100km run. Anyone doing this? I know years ago guys were doing home brews with Toluene.

Berryman's B-12 Chemtool injector cleaner is Acetone, Toluene, MethyEthylKetone, butoxyethylene and a dash of Isopropyl I figure it's about 130 octane, and only costs $20 per gallon. Might get ya couple more degrees of spark advance.

The small bottles run around $5 at WalMart and parts stores. I didn't realize it was an octane booster.

I used denatured alcohol in gas once to pass emissions and it worked to lower the HC’s.

Good lord I don't miss the days off the sniffer.

I'm sure it's safe on occasion, but I'd be cautious about putting it in every tank. Acetone and methanol is pretty aggressive on steels and Methyl Ethyl Ketone on o-rings and plastics. The 2-butoxyethanol is hygroscopic like ethanol. Long term consistent use may cause damage.

What a dumpster fire those sniffers were! Now that my '98 is an antique I don't even have to take an OBD scan test any more. I don't miss that either.

All that bureaucracy just to catch that < .00001% that might be out of compliance. Half of which those impacted probably can't even afford the repairs anyway. SMH

It's not that cut and dried. While flex fuel usually use more robust materials, doesn't mean it can handle long term exposure to anything you put in the tank. Especially when it comes to o-rings. And some constituents in high concentration can cause faster degradation. Matter of fact, even E24-E27 is generally more aggressive than E85-E100 on elastomers, plastics, and stainless.

Secondly vapor and pressure can create cavitation-induced shock waves (basically micro-bubbles bursting), which attacks surfaces of stainless steels at a micro-structure level. So if it increases the potential system vapor @ pressure over ethanol blends, it can cause long term damage. Might take several thousand miles, but it can happen.

It's at your own risk if you want to use your car as a long-term test bed. But be prepared to possibly need to replace things in the fuel system path from tank to injectors. And hopefully if it's the o-rings that let go, you catch it before the carbecue.

I have to have my work van sniffer tested and there are only a couple sniffers left in my county.

Been buying Berryman's B-12 Chemtool- 4 gallons to the case since 2016, and running a GALLON per tank in a " Flex-Fuel " Tahoe when on the ROAD.. STILL have the OEM fuel pump, from 2002 - no ****. -- Havent had any O-Rings fall off yet--.
Ran the Tahoe down to Texas and back, the LONG way in 2017. 11,000 miles in 3 weeks. I said the LONG way, we crossed 3 Canadian provinces ( twice) and 11 states.
.
Also, since the best Road Fuel we can get delivered in Alaska is 90 Octane, I usually add 10 Gallons of 100LowLead avgas, and 5 gallons of ( either ) Toluene or Acetone each time I get my bulk tank filled. Apparently blends containing 2% Leaded AvGas is O2 sensor safe, because BOTH primary O2 sensors AND the AEM wideband are still working after 8 years of daily Magnuson BOOST.

I tried it years ago when I was taking my car to the track regularly. I was getting several degrees of KR in the peak torque range. I think it helped a bit with that, but it didn't translate into better ET's.

Did you try 93 octane when you got to TX? If so did it suit your needs or did it still require Chemtool?

I was able to run 93 octane, without supplement.
Most states had 92 or 93 which worked well, seldom saw any Knock Retard.

No, Better fuel in Canada, and the south 48 states.
Do carry around Alaska, some stations only have 87 octane.
