Default Quickest "STOCK BOTTOM END" List

Rules: All bottom end parts must be as found in a stock '02 LS1 or earlier years. If you have an earlier year LS1 and want to upgrade to the '02 rod bolts that is fine but aftermarket rod bolts are not allowed. A cage is required, not just for safety reasons but the majority of respectable drag strips in North America require them, especially for cars running these kinds of times. No need to give unfair weight advantages to those who have found shadyville drag strip.

Please chime in with the details and we can put you in the appropriate place.

This would be an interesting list, IMO.. But where do you draw the line.. Is rod bolts a stock bottomend?

Peace,

Even if it gets shot down, an unofficial one could be pretty interesting. I know there are some guys like TRMIN8R shooting for 9s on stock bottom end. Last I checked he was still stock rotating assembly. But then, he was also cam only T-56 back then too.

I can't see how it is possible to get below 3,000 lbs unless there is no cage. We can discuss the rules later.

First things first, is there any interest in such a list? It sure would give many of us a new goal to shoot for.
lol...this is the internet, how the hell would you regulate it to those standards. And how many cars on this site are truly 100% NHRA/IHRA legal to the T. That could probrably be another top 20 list. 3000lbs with a cage is not rediculous, if you can't get your car that light and stay legal, your just not trying hard enough. I do think it's a great idea but I would just open it up to any stock rotating LSX.

BTW: I think the quickest is still 9.6x.

That is why we have so many lists.

But I don't nesisarily disagree with that.

As far as I can see we only have two lists, stock internals can cam only. I don't see how that is too many. If you don't like them, don't look at them. Personally it gives me a goal to shoot for.

All of these lists are ls1tech.com lists so there is no way to regulate them. How do we really know everyone on the cam only list is really cam only? It's called the honor's system. If some ding bat wants to be a liar and get on a list he really doesn't qualify for then that's something he has to live with. The rest of us on the list can be proud of our achievement. My point is, sure someone could lie but what the hell for? I know liars are plentiful but I don't see what satisfaction one could get from being on a list he/she really doesn't qualify for.

As for the rules, I say stock bottom end means just that. Absolutely no aftermarket parts. Better rod bolts would allow you to spin the motor higher or spray more or a little earlier.

The weight limit was just a suggestion. I'm at 3,300 lbs RACEWEIGHT and there is nothing left for me to take out unless I want my car to look like a tin can. I still have my dash, center console, stock steering wheel, interior panels, stereo, speakers, two front Kirkey seats, carpet and a cage legal to 8.50. I have done plenty of weight reduction mods but I want my car to actually look like a Camaro, inside and out. If you want to completely gut your car just to run three or four tenths faster then go for it. I think most people on this site would agree 3,000 lbs raceweight IS rediculous for a f-body. So happy hacking but I say no matter what your weight, a cage is required as is a stock style suspension and oh yeah, a stock rotating assembly.

i think there is no need for everyone on the list to be legal. that's not the concern. i don't think there should be a weight limit. i also think that rod bolts should be allowed, as they are in the cam-only list. "you can spin the motor higher." ... yea, that's what we're hear to see... how much can a stock bottom end take. if you want to have all of these limits on the cars then go race in a sanctioned event. this is not class racing.

i agree with having an N/A list, and an additional adder list. but maybe limit the amount of entries to the top 10 or 15. not two lists of 20 cars each.

my .02.

W/O a minimum weight all we are seeing is who can gut their car the most. I fail to see the challenge there. If I gutted my car I'd be deep in the 9's, but thats no challenge, and its been done to death. Whats the point? When I go to the track and see a tin can that used to be a car if it doesn't crack 9's or better I laugh, I mean seriously, what is the point?

if you choose not to gut your car thats fine, but you arent going to be the fastest, either.
leaving the full interior in one is cool, but its basically a streetcar, imo. a 50/50 built car will never be the best at anything.

The title says "Fastest Stock Bottom End", not "Fastest Stock Bottom End Full Weight Street Car". If it's a stock rotating LSX platform car, the list should be open to it. Just list the car platform and the weight so everyone can see and compare their own numbers to it. It's not like this is a "King of the Hill" competition, it should be for referance purposes only. If a guy looks at the list and sees that his set up could go 9.70s at under 3,000lbs, that may give him a goal. JMO.

I personally am not going to throw a fit about weight because the other two lists have no weight limit either. However, a cage and stock rod bolts should be required.

Stock rod bolts were voted off by the cam only guys but the topic eventually died with nothing being ruled. Sometimes people have a way of becoming famous on this website and the majority opinion gets ignored when the subject being discussed does not favor them. Aftermarket rod bolts is not stock anymore so quit whining about it. So until rod bolts are not considered part of the bottom end, they should remain stock.

A cage should definitely be required also. I thought everyone on the cam only list had a cage but maybe just those of us who actually follow the rules. That's too bad. Sorry but at respectable drag strips across the country you can't run these times unless you are legal. So I guess those of us who run at legitimate drag strips are supposed to drive down to hickville every time we want to make a pass instead of getting a cage and being able to run at our local drag strip? I don't think so. Save yourself the embarrasment and get a cage. You're not going to impress anyone running quick times in a tin can without a cage. Matter of fact, where I run you get one 9 second pass and then you have to get licensed. I'm willing to bet the top 10 power adder's on the stock bottom will all be in the 9's.

So I say weight limit, no. Aftermarket rod bolts, no. Cage, yes! This isn't the stock internals list.
