What block? I'm a new member here but been around cars my whole life. I am in the middle of a restoration on my 74 nova and was throwing around the idea of building an LS. I have found a lot of great info on here but still kind of up in the air on what I want to build. I want to run in the mid to lower 9s in the 1/4 and be able to drive it on the street. I'm not going to be making long trips with the car. What do you guys think would be the best engine to go with to save all the weight I can without sacrificing strength and make a lot of power? From what I have figured I think 750hp will get me there. What block will hold up? Thanks for the info.

Really? I know a small block chevy is only good for around 550hp in stock form. That's good news to hear that any of them will hold that kind of power but you said if thats all I plan on making. Is 750 basically the limit for a stock LS block before I have to buy an aftermarket? Thanks
The ls platform is no small block chevy (sbc).
I'm making well over 1000 hp with a stock 6.0 ls block, as are many others. In power adder apps 750 can be held with a stock ls1. Although it's probably not a bad idea to upgrade the rods and pistons. Stock blocks and cranks can hold a ton of power in the ls platform.

I have an l33 block (z71 5.3 block etc 04 and newer) which is aluminum(109lbs), stock 4.8 crank, scat rods, +.050 bore +5cc diamond pictons=302 cubes.
ported 243 heads, tick cam, csu blow through, 475/87/1.10 turbo, w/a cooler, meth on e85..
on low boost(14psi) ran 9.54@142.. I drive it daily, or a lot.. t400 and 3.25 gears.. cruises down the highway..
mileage sucks the way I have the carb set up but it runs.. its gone faster but im still working things out before I shoot for 8's..
