Cool Drag Racing Charging System

Can anyone tell me if there is a different type of charging system used in a 8.50 sec ls1 drag car? if so, what is in this system?

you can do a 16v system, there are battery's with 3 terminals a 16v +/- and a 12v+ for stock computers etc

other than that there really isn't anything different.

I'm using a stock alternator rebuilt to 145A output, 10% underdriven and a voltblaster which raises the voltage to 15.5V or so at WOT only and a single 12V optima battery. Been working fine for a couple years now. I dont run 8.50s but close enough

Its just a little 80.00 box that plugs into the TPS and alternator made by Casper electronics. At 80% or over TPS its performs some kind of mojo to the regulatorr to up the alternator output. Sort of like full fielding in the old days but not sure how they do it with the CS alternators. But it works, probably costs a few hp but I'd rather have my pumps and ignition at the higher voltage on a pass and its a lot less hassle than the 16v battery thing.

I run no alternator at all. Just one full size optmia red top in the trunk. I have never had any voltage problems.

Yes but we always did. For the last 2 years it was habbit for me to hook it up right after the pass since our water pump/fans are on cooling the engine.
