Default Drag radial tire question

I have been hearing a few different ways to soften sidewalls on radials so they wrinkle like a slick. One is to drop them down to 2psi and drive them slowly around a parking lot to loosen the sidewalls. Now one of my best bud's used to work in a tire shop and has seen a lot of destroyed tires that ran were ran low on air and he doesn't recomend this since the stability of the tire is compromised. I've also heard a few other spoof's but I want to hear if someone has any more info on how to ade me get some 8 second time slips before the winter sets in.

You don't need the sidewall to flex. They like alot of air so the sidewall dosen't flex too much. I find if the sidewall does flex due to low air pressure the car will spin when the sidewall rebounds and unloads. Look at my rear tire in the picture. It looks almost perfectly round.

I'm about 3150 with me in it and I've got the 295-65-15 radials. I ran 29.5-10.5-15 ET slicks last season and went 8.93 @ 154, I was told not to adjust anything on th ecar since these tire work just as good as a slick. My front end came up about a foot with those tires and if I can get the radials to do the same I'll be happy. How much PSI do you run and how much pinion angle is in your rear axle?

We have had good success with 18psi.

The Radials will probably make the front end come up higher than a slick or bias ply ET street.
I have heard of more than a few cars switching tires and going on the bumper or close to it.

17.5 psi. My pinion angle is -2. The car will probably wheelie higher on the radials than on the bias plys. Be ready!

we run 13.5 on greasy tracks and 14.5 on good tracks. 315MT on a 3500lb 3rd gen. you definately don't want the sidewall wadding up on the tire.

Do you think you'll run faster with the stiffer sidewall drag radial as opposed to a ET street bias ply?

reason i ask is that i just ordered a set of ET streets again as i liked my old ones but contemplated the ET street radials since i would assume they would give me more topend and stability with less rolling resistance due to more sidewall. I just didnt like the fact that the et street radial was 9 lbs heavier than the ET street bias ply. not sure if that rotating weight difference will have any effect on my ET's

I have 2 runs with 325-50-15's.... first one I got some tire shake and got out of it.

Second one I went 1.35 and went 9.4, I had the dr's at 17 psi.

UPDATE: Went to Milan on saturday and they had their anual high school nationals and I was warned they the track prep would not be even close to par. I ran it on motor and we started out with 17 PSI in the tires and left the suspension alone. I went 10.95 @ 111mph just to test out the new brakes and I did spin really bad out of the hole with a 1.88 60'. The second pass we dropped the tires to 15PSI and 60" time was 1.66, I ran 10.35 @ 136 MPH. I did have to pedal the car out of the hole and we didn't get anymore passes in. I hope to get back this friday fo rthe heads up race and see what will happen on the first stage of NOS and a well preped track. Gonna try 150 on the first and 200 on the second probably in second gear and see if the tires will hold.

Just got it together last week. I have raced in the heads up races but in outlaw 10.5. Got fed up by getting my *** haned to me by 6 second cars so I went with a radial this year. Hope to run the points series next year and be more competitive.

Update: raced the friday night heads up at Milan dragway and we got a good handle on the radials. Went 9.27 @ 148 delaying the NOS by rpm on a window switch. We were paired up against Steve Turley, the Ohio boys car, in the first round of elims. I wheel stood the car twice and 60' time with the rear tires was 1.36 had to lift to make sure everything was ok.

Went back to Milan for a rental this morning and ran 9.07 @ 153 mph with the same settings as last night but delaying the NOS later on with the window switch. I'll be in the mid 8's once I get a chance to hook up the second kit.

Don't forget also when comparing the M/T ET Street Radials to the ET Street bias ply tires that the drag radial has a softer compound R1/R2 vs the M5 compound found in the ET Streets.

radials will go fast but you have to aply the power smoothly. and carry the front end pretty high with a stiff rear setup...

Did a compression check to day and found a dead #8 cylinder. Gonna pull the head soon and see what happened. Hope it's just hole in the piston, I have 2 extras.

I ran mine at 14.5 when it stood up and I think I'll stick with that next year. Don't want to change too much and have problems.
