Default Need help with this noise on 99 camero ss LS1

I have my old roommates 1999 camero SS 5.7 with LS1 in it. It was manual and she stupidly swapped it to automatic , I changed the oil and and filter and she had over 7 quarts of oil in it and changed the transmission fluid and filter but when I ordered the filter for the car it wasn’t the right trans filter. It’s a complete different one than what pulls up in auto zones system. But i start the car and keep it in park and then I push on the gas and it starts to make this loud popping/ banging noise. I’m trying to upload a video but won’t let me so email me or text me at christinepsmith94@yahoo.com or 6822447927 and I’ll send the video and you see smoke coming where the ac should be hooked up but it’s not hooked up… please I need to know what to do. Thank you.

Is that loud banging coming from under the valve cover? I hate to say it but it’s time to tow it to a shop and load up the credit card. Might as well make it go as fast as you can afford while they’re in there. If you can.

First clatter consistent with RPM sounds like a loud Lifter. I take it you're asking about that second noise that just pops and doesn't really sync with anything?

CamAro.

not sure how to use this website(as in don’t know where the comment button is so hope this is right lol) but yeah the loud popping/banging noise & the smoke that comes up where the ac is suppose to go. And also when I start it up it turns on but if I try to restart it again after it’s like it dosnt want to restart….but then I’ll try the next day and it’ll start but after that first time it won’t or tries to but won’t and it smells too. Don’t know if it’s from the exhaust or the engine cause I’m in the car obviously lol

Only thing I can think of is maybe the header gasket is cracked and exhaust comes out when it builds enough pressure, or if it has stock manifolds it may be cracked there.

You don’t think it’s something in the bottom end banging around?

Get out while it’s idling and look and listen to try and find out where the banging is coming from. If the noise isn’t coming from inside the engine, as loud as it is you should be able to see something broken flopping around.

Na, it's not in sync with anything and you see the exhaust puff.

well here’s the thing is when I try to start it again it dosnt wanna start. Then when I try the next day or long period of time it’ll start…and don’t wanna drain the battery or starter starting it. But that’s why I thought it was timing at first but then thought how would timing be making the loud banging/knocking/ noise or whatever you wanna call that noise that isn’t aupppse to be happening

If the car wont start after you've had it running the Crank Sensor could be on it's way out. Heat kills them.

Investigate into what I said may be the cause a few posts above, and fix it.

Pull the Oil Cap off and see if there's anything puffing out of there.
