Default these mods enough??

hey guys im loooking to build a weekend car. i just got back inot cars and sold everything i had ( twin turbo cobra then a sprayed ls1 before tht) i want a 1998-up camaro just for the occasional weekend driver, my plans for the car are mid 9's on spray. it will be stripped as light as possible moser 12 bolt with 4.10s, and a turbo 400 with probably like a 4000-4500stall. my question is im looking to run a 300 shot maybe a 250 shot but i would like to use the stock block. Is this possible with just the stock block?? im thinking about punching it out to a 370 or whtever yall suggest and seeing if i could get 500hp n/a would i be fine if it is punched out a little then and extreme h/c package and a 250-300 shot?? or will i have to go to an iron block??

How light are you going to get it? I'm pretty good on the weight reduction look at mine. Why not just build a bbc or sbc so you can pull all the computer and wires and extra crap out, then get an ignition box and run a carb.

You could get 9s with the 300 hit.

Traction is the key factor though.

I think the stock block would be fine. I have a stock block LS6 in mine with diamond pistons, Lunati Rods, and the stock crank. I sprayed 250hp on it many times with no issues ever. I never made it to the 9s for a few reasons. Weight and getting it to hook.

nx28: are you on the stock cubes or to you have a stroker kit in it?? im just worried about punching it out and the block being too thin while spraying that big of a shot in it

Stock bore and stroke with 6.125 rods. The car weighs 3550lbs with me in it. I did take the bumper supports out, front sway bar, air pump, power steering pump, rear seats, and A/C. I did make up for it though with a 6-point roll bar and Moser 12 bolt. I think you can only bore a LS1/6 ten over. I still think it would be O.K. to spray 250hp on. I would do it all day long. You could also get a progressive controller for it to ramp up to the full hit in increments. This would put less stress on the block. That was going to be my next purchase but duty called and am I currently deployed.

so what would you think about a progressive 300 shot?? i was going to go with a progressive kit anyhow but im just nervouse about the stock block. i want to do it right the first time and im just trying to decide whether to go with an iron stroker kit or stay with the stock block.

A 300hp shot seems to be right at the limit for our stock blocks. They tend to shake the head and blow the gasket above 300. I used ARP head studs and the GM 5.7L MLS gasket. I would use the progressive on the 300hp shot on the stock block. With the setup you are going to run you probably won't need 300 to get into the 9s. If you can get the race weight to 3100lbs you will only need aprx 730 flywheel horsepower to get into the 9s. You can usually squeeze about 530fwhp from a H/C LS1. Also, I wouldn't put a stroker kit in it because it raises the pin to far up in the piston and you lose piston crown thickness.

so ur thinkin motor wise with just a good h/c combo, fast 90/90 electric water and forged internals with a progressive 300 shot i would be good??

I would go with a Fast 92/92 instead of the 90/90. The rest should get you there. Good luck with it.
