Flexplate for SBC Hi,
why are there two different sizes of flexplates for an sbc (153 and 168 tooth)?
I guess, to start an engine is easier with 168 tooth, is this correct?
If I have a 153 can I bulit in a 168?

You can swap a 153 for a 168, but you need to change the starter too.
A starter for a 168 uses a diagonal bolt pattern. For the 153 the bolts are straight across.
All blocks have the diagonal bolt pattern, most have both, some don't have the straight across pattern.

the reason is that there are two different starter drive sizes. the larger is for the 153 tooth and the smaller is for the 168 tooth. go to you local napa and they can get you part numbers on the drives and you can count the teeth.
