Default Good 350 shortblocks?

Looking to purchase a pre-assembled 350 shortblock but am having trouble deciding which route to go. My goals are somewhere north of 500hp at the crank mated to a TH400 from either TS or TCI.

I've contacted a few dealers and they all say that their shortblocks (complete with forged pistons and I-beams) are good up to 500HP. Funny thing is, I've pushed a stock bottom end 350 a little beyond 500HP so I'm not looking to splurge money on something that I could do without.

The ones I'm looking at right now are:
http://www.schwankeshortblocks.com - Level 1 350 Chevy Short Block
http://www.proformanceunlimited.com/...eme_short.html

Haven't been able to find much info on either one of them.

Am hoping to squeeze at least 425hp to the wheels through the TH400 in a 1900 lb car, and just looking for a cheap yet reliable route.

You are WAY better off making more power to the back tires with a TH350, less mass to suck up power, and it weighs less. The second motor you mentioned is the one i would use if you were dead set on using ether of those companies.

Here is a pump gas motor with a warranty...

I thought about the TH350 but I've got a couple of 400s sitting around I could use as a core or backup. Besides, I've got one from TS in my nova which is making ~740hp and I haven't had a problem out of it for 2 years of street use and heavy track use.

As for the motor from patriot, I just need a shortblock...

I've got some 50cc heads I would look to try on some flat-tops /w 7cc valve reliefs for 12.1:1 and E-85. These same heads netted me 490hp pump gas on a stock bottom end 350 last year. I want to bump the compression up and run the E-85 with a slightly larger cam and shoot for at least 550-600 at the flywheel.

Car they are going in is very very small and lightweight. A buddy of mine has a similar setup in an old 2200lb dodge colt and runs 9.70's /w only 450whp.

If you want a 350 we can build it for you as well. HKE has one of the better reputations around and I am about to release my line of SBC and BBC engines.

I'd consider it but I'm on an extreme budget. I don't think I can go over $2000 on a shortblock, $2500 is REALLY pushing it. The closer I get to 600hp, though, the better. Maybe I'll try and find someone that sells them with Scat rotating assemblies in them. I-beams and flat tops are a must.

I'll see what I can do. I would give Shawn at Virginia Speed call or pm as well.

Tell you what, if you are willing to go used, i have a set of forged flat tops, forged capscrew I beams, and a scat 9000 stroker crank with about 150 miles on them since i built it, i will let it all go for 700$ plus shipping. I am not going to use the parts and they are in pristine shape, i can post pics if you like but the short block is still together. The assemble is balanced too. BUT, this setup is for a 1 piece 86 up rear 1 piece seal.

No thanks, I don't have the time to assemble a block, or the machine shop to prep the block correctly for me. I'm going to have to purchase an entire shortblock.

I'll have to get one with a forged crank and 4-bolt mains. Going to spray a 100-shot on it as well.

We have a nice SB2 short here.

4.170" bore. Chevy Bowtie block, splayed 4 bolt roller cam block (not flat tappet SB2 block). Clevitte cam, main and rod bearings, Braynt 3.260" crankshaft std. mains and rods, Dyers 6.200" rods with 2.00" pins, JE pistons and ring set. FRESH and ready to race.
Piston dome volume is -9cc, 13:1 with 42cc heads.

Looking for 3,200.00 but open to reasonable offers.

Out of my price range. I called one of the guys in the links I posted above and their forged shortblock will be good for what I plan on throwing at it. Cost is $2500 on that one. He hasn't got back to me on how high I can safely rev it.
