Default 327 running very rich w edlebrock 600

I am not great with edlebrock carbs so i need some tuning advice. The 327 has a mild cam and a 600 cfm edlebrock. It makes your eyes water at idle and bogs huge when it is floored. The throttle response is not too bad when in park.

Have you tried adjusting your A/F screws, that will have a lot to do with the rich idling. Also you could change metering rods and smaller secondary jets and see if that helps with the bog. What heads, cam, pistons, timing, etc. are you running?

if you go to the edelbrock website, you can download a tuning instruction manual, will take you step by step.

step #1 is always check the fuel level in the bowl, if it is not set to the correct level then everything else you do will be in vain because everything is based off fuel/float level. And setting the float level is not an exact science, on any carb, you'll have a measurement specified but sometimes it's better to have fuel level a little higher in the bowl. If you run into tuning problems you can't figure out, then fall back to increasing fuel level in the bowl slightly and retune, increase some more & retune, until it floods at idle then you know you're too far.

since you mention watery eyes it sounds like an overly rich condition along with too much ignition timing at idle. General rule is richer mixture requires less ignition timing, lean mixture requires more ignition timing, so if you have idle mixture set on the richer side then you want less timing like 8-10 dBTDC. If you lean the mixture out at idle which you should but not too lean obviously, then you can run up around around 12-14 dBTDC... it'll depend on how tunable your ignition system is for what amount of advance you can run at idle. You'll want to set timing at least 10 dBTDC for idle, then adjust idle fuel mixture; if you can go more timing at idle then 14 dBTDC is typical and then tune fuel mixture for that.
Once you get the idle performance only then move on to the higher rpm performance issues because they are based off that carb circuit:

high rpm & high load .................................................. ... low rpm & low load
power valve (circuit) <- main jets (circuit) <- idle mixture (circuit) <- fuel float level

fuel pressure

float level

These are reliable & simple carb's. Nothing really special about them, the basic function is the same as a holley, just uses a rod instead of a power valve.
