Well you can't assume we have the same thing here. The heads you get from Scoggin and Dickey do not come with guide plates. They come from the factory on 1996-1999 trucks without guide plates. Self-aligning= less hassle

I've seen some make 500 w/ vortec heads and 2 barrel carbs(dirt track engines)

but saying a comp 292 camshaft doesnt give enough info... you can get a couple of different comp 292 cams. is it a hydraulic or solid? which grind? comp has about 5 different grinds of camshafts.
Going by his lift and duration numbers it is the magnum292h grind, it is a flat tappet hydraulic cam. It will make decent power and a good bit more than 350 hp

Car Craft did a untouched vortec headed build and made 440 hp with a comp extreme energy grind. Here is the link.

Here are the specs on the cam they used.

That motor sounds weak. A motor with a cam that sounds like that should have a snappy throttle response. My diesel truck revs faster than that. The heads are choking that motor.

A ported camel hump will probably flow close to what an untouched vortec will flow. I have seen a 450 hp 383 with vortecs on it. 440-450 is your limit with vortecs on a decent smallblock.

Were the valve seats changed or were they just cut for the 2.02 valves?

Valve seats are integral in almost all vortec cylinder heads yet some where press in. Mine are integral so they were ground for 2.02 1.60 valves. Car went a 8.32 in the 1/8th but shoulda went more like 8.0 I think it was due to the fact it was 90 degrees out and my hood only clears the carb by a inch and a half or so. Its in a 96 fbody.

I don't think it was the hood or the weather.
