Default Vortec 350 track performance??

Hey guys my buddy put together a Vortec 350 for a 96 firebird.
The plan was to make 400-430hp so he ported the heads put 2.02 valves in
milled the heads put a 222/222 560ish cam and Rpm air gap ported with pacesetter 1 3/4 headers. The car has a 3200 stall and a 700r4 with a shift kit and 4:10 gears well last night we went to the track and ran it.
Best pass was
1.84 60ft
8.36 1/8
81mph on motor and
1.74 60ft
7.84 1/8
90.5mph on a plate 150 shot
does this sound right?
Do you guys think its making 425hp on motor? The car was dead hooking and its a know fact this track is 3-4mph faster than others.

My cam was 224/230 112 LSA+4 into the cam and it went 7.90@87 with 3.73 gear on dr's with 3500 stall. I didn't put the bigger valves in just had 11.5 compression. You are make 425 at the flywheel just not at the wheels.

You went 7.90 on motor or a 150 shot of nitrous? His went 8.36 on motor.

sounds like something's not right.

buddy's car, full weight third gen i'd bet 3500+ lbs:
STOCK vortec 350 minus a gmpp hotcam
3.73 gears
built 700r4 w/ a 3000 stall
1 5/8's hedman shorties to 3" Y pipe and then open cut out
bone stock suspension with some 275/50 dr's or 26x10.5 ET Street bias plys
eddy performer rpm (non air-gap)
eddy 750
it ran 8.15 @ around 84 IIRC

put in an xe288hr and a holley 750 dp i built

7.92@87mph

these were with like a 1.75-1.82 60fts

My car, raceweight between 3100-3200
th350 w/ 3500 jegs converter
STOCK vortec 350 (never had the valvecovers off)
hedman longtubes
dual 2.25 exhaust
4.10 gears
eddy performer intake
600 cfm eddy carb

8.32@82 mph w/ a 1.8x 60ft

you've got something messed up somewhere. how much does it weigh? what was the nitrous tune up? you should gain a lot more than .4 on a 150 shot....

Its not my car its my best friends and i'm trying to tell him not to be happy with the performance. He thinks it takes 400-425hp to run 8.30-40's. He is listening to a circle track guy that has never drag raced ever! Thanks for the info guys maybe he will listen to me now and change a couple things and be really happy with his car and not say every ls1 lt1 he races is spraying him.

typically the vortecs like a split pattern cam. is that a factory roller block? if it is i'd be putting in a bigger hydraulic roller cam to really wake it up.

i'd be fairly unhappy if i'd been tuning on it and stuff for a while, but how well is the motor tuned? how much timing is it running?

I told him and so did another friend that runs them they like dual patterns. Timing was played with in between runs around 30-36 degrees. Its got a quick fuel 850 detuned on it.

find a 750 to throw on it, i'd bet that 850 is a touch on the large side. i'd be getting the parts to put a roller cam in it, something a little more modern than that old stick that he has in there right now.

On motor 7.90 all day on slick. It ran 8.1 on street tires and 2800 stall. The hot cam is the **** for a 350.
