Priming brand new engine, and smells weird.

Priming brand new engine, and smells weird. I took the plugs out in my 383 stroked vortec headed SBC and put some rotella 10W40 and let it crank for 5-8 seconds each time and I could smell almost a burnt oil/fuel smell. Gas tank is brand spanking new with no fuel ever put in. What is causing this smell?
